To take full advantage of websites like returnloads.net and truckspace.co.uk is it best to have just the tractor unit or the trailer as well.
In other words is most of the work on pallettes or trailer towing?
The reason I ask is that my brother in law died and has left a 5 year old tractor unit in his estate and I was just wondering ■■?
How do you intend to carry a load without a trailer? The loads from those sites are usually ones requiring a trailer. Also be aware that the rates are crap and basically cover the cost of fuel for the run you did which made the money. That is what a return load is.
Tractor only if you’re loading up to drop it at ferries for it to be exported as an unaccompanied trailer. Tractor and trailer for pretty much everything else. You can rent trailers quite cheaply whilst you find out what exactly you need.

I would say it depends where you are in the country or if you are willing to base yourself away for the week. If it was me I would be looking at pulling ferry trailers with it, no trailer hire, no maintenance or tyres on the trailer, not even needing to repair cut / torn sheets or supply fuel for a fridge.
Even pulling for someone like TNT/Ceva would be better than running your own on auction style back load rates
