Each to their own i guess, there is a chap who tips in our yard on scrap metal who’s always in a shirt and tie
If he stinks of ■■■■ and old spice he’s a ■■■■■ who should be shunned like a leper at a swingers party…

The mob im on for give us a uniform to wear it save my own clothes from being ruined
we get uniform where i work , all about image really , so it’s not really an issue , most firms have a uniform of sorts even if its just a polo shirt, we get cargo trousers , polo shirt, sweatshirt & a fleece although i do keep asking for a lightcotton shirt for the summer months as i can get through two poloshirts a day when it’s really hot , even if you run for a independent hauler with just two trucks , there’s no excuse really to be scruffy
saw a Warburtons Bakery and a Walkers Crisps drivers wearing shirts and ties this week. Looks pretty smart.
We get polo shirts, sweaters, fleece jackets and a big heavy winter jacket every year, don’t think we have to wear them but I do sometimes, saves ruining my own clothes. Wear my own jeans, combats or shorts and my own footwear, usually only put on the safety boots when asked to.

Uniform don’t cost me anything and we (Stobart) get loads of kit!! Wear my own clobber when parked up to avoid spotter attention!
They have an aversion to decent work gloves though! No such thing as decent work gloves
Ahh!! That’ll be the reason then Bubsy!
I have tried allsorts and they always fall apart within a few weeks
I’ve got 2 pair of gloves, wet ones and dry use ones. Wet ones are red plastic/rubber and completely waterproof, but your hands sweat and stink if you wear them too long. The dry ones I acquired from somewhere - they are gripper gloves, like a normal yellow fabric glove but have like a lattice glue pattern on them for the grip. They’re really comfy and work well, but get soaked through with any sort of moisture.
At K&M Hauliers, we had a few old-time drivers who wore collar and tie (non-uniform). One even wore a blazer!
By the end of a hot day, they were all down to their vest though
Anyone who wears a company uniform can claim the tax back if you launder it yourself, check this link.
