your missing the point completely why row over £50 quid when he calls the tax man and they give him £80 for cleaning what he will chucking in with his normal washing so straight away he is £30 quid up on any loss plus his own clothes are not ruined!

the employer has decided that HE wanys the worker to wear a uniform, when he employed the OP he didn’t have this rule so in effect he is changing the terms and conditions.
Thats all OK if it is an improvement for the worker and he doesn’t lose out by it, but why should the worker be out of pocket (even if only temporarily) for the bosses benefit.
would you be happy if the boss asked you for a deposit against the return of the vehicle?
It’s the same principle.
I agree however that £50 isn’t really worth getting exicted about, UNLESS, the OP is already struggling with his finances, in which case £50 less in the pay packet maight mean going overdrawn on the months bills and incur penalties from the bank etc which could mean a lot more than £50 and which may not be reclaimable, would the boss be willingto pay hime any out of pocket costs because of this?
