Uneven brake pad wear

Hi all,

Have a 2007 volvo fh and the rear pads keep wearing unevenly throwing up the check brakes at next stop have checked both calipers and theyre both free does anybody know what could be causing this, its the near side thats wearing faster than the o/s

Thanks in advance

Beyond the normal well known mechanical faults, not sure about that year, but believe the newer ones the EBS applies brakes individually for even wear across the axle. I think it uses data from the pad wear sensors to do this.

Remove the chambers and make sure you’ve not got a broken chamber return Spring on one side.

Definite chamber problem, if everything else is good. man,s suffer with same problem, usually spring inside chamber has collapsed, then holds brake on slightly.

Are the pads actually wearing more on one side? Have you had the wheels off and measured them? Most of my problems with volvo brake pads are electrical more than mechanical. Were the pads calibrated when fitted new?

Check chamber,Sometimes if spring brake diaphragm leaking air supply to spring brake gets into service side of chamber and holds the service brake on.Sometimes you can hear the ABS modulator for that wheel “grunting” as the modulator exhausts.

Park the truck with the hand brake off and check that no air is escaping from the modulator unit for that wheel.Has to escape from the modulator as the foot valve exhaust is shut.Usual sign is an overheated disc.
