Undertaking in queue. What would you do

robroy:
… one guy gave me a [zb] dog’s bollocking for it on here calling me an irresponsible knob head and all the rest of it.

Get off the road you sodding hooligan, bullying your way through the traffic with your juggernaut tut, tut, what an irresponsible knob head !!!

Kerragy:
I’d have put on my hi viz and hard hat and did what you did.
.

Mate…I always drive with my hi viz on as I like to give the impression I am an agency driver ( just for the kudos :sunglasses: )and it does not bother me in the slightest that it makes me look a complete knob, as it never seems to deter the rest of them.

As for the hard hat, I’m never seen driving without it, along with ear defenders, and full face visor, with breathing mask.
I try to go for the demented health and safety down market Top Gun pilot look.

dozy:
you might be big enough too bully some car driver into letting you in , but I can assure you it won’t work with me :exclamation: :exclamation: bring it on :exclamation: :smiling_imp:

Looks like doze has been snorting shandy again and spending his Sunday watching the full ’ Rocky’ box set with all that macho bravado and raging tesrosterone.here
Come on doze, show me where I said I bullied anybody, it was a rigid driver who let me in, try and keep up man. :unamused:
Have yourself a black coffee.

id expect a fellow truckie to have the decency to oblige if need be,though I wouldn’t really class anyone in stobrats as in a similar occupation to me…but there you go.

Dead right, I have many faults but being a selfish arrogant Arse in an Artic on the road is deffo not one of them.
(Some may argue after my o/p  )

I flash trucks across, …in,… out, …and shake it all about.

I do NOT block cars in to demonstrate I am a big balled trucker hero, but let them in and out, in an effort to carry on with a one man campaign to try and make us a bit more popular than we presently are… ie one step up from a paedo in a playground, and in fact 9 times out of 10 get a wave or flash to say thanks, maybe they are surprised by trucker courtesy, due to the lack of it demonstrated today.
In actual fact I am officially perfect. :sunglasses:

It’s normally trucks that do the blocking I’ve noticed, it’s funny in my car I always manage to squeeze past, which always winds them up, the roads there to be used if it wasn’t it’d be coned off.

Have been known when going into Bracknell past the waitrose rdc island down to Twin bridges roundabout to turn left traffic playing pansies queuing up so its outside lane round the island then under the bridge lol always a fav that lol :grimacing:

Coming anticlockwise around the M25 sunday night, and overhead gantries start flashing that M26 is closed. I’m going that way so I’m muttering already by this point. Methinks I’ll come off onto the Southbound A21, and cut down the A25 trough Seal.

Next gantry sign now says “A21 access closed”.

I’m thinking multiple swear words by this point, needless to say.

Approaching the actual J5, expecting the sharp left turn up the hill towards Orpington…
The guys putting the cones out have not actually coned off the M26 yet. Truck in front of me gets into lane 2 (of the only two left hand lanes still open) and then cuts across into the last few feet of unconed bit on the right.

Would you follow through there?

I challenge anyone to “volunteer” to take a 20 mile detour when a last second opportunity like THAT appears… :sunglasses:

tango boy:
Rob I’m proud of you but you need to ditch that curtainsider and get a bulker :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

He definitely has the mentality to join us.

Not sure if that’s a compliment or an insult.

That’s maybe what it’s all about, I was taught on an artic by a mate…on a tipper.…it must have been brainwashed in me, and it’s finally coming out.

You Snooze You Lose

As a night driver I encounter single lane roadworks and/or full closures on an almost nightly basis. On the busier sections it will result in lengthy queues (queued for an hour to get off M6 in the past). If it’s closed up ahead and I see a queue the first thing I do is get in the second lane. So long as there are no red Xs that’s where I’m staying until we get to the cones. Occasionally you’ll get some billy big ball trucker in the outside lane acting all traffic cop whilst himself totally breaking the law but nothing you can do about that.

On the M25 a few weeks ago I reckon I saved at least half an hour by undercutting the traffic. I hit the back of a queue in the 4 lane section by J26. All 4 lanes were screwed. Eventually the inside lane became free flowing while the other 3 were at a virtual standstill. I gently glided past everyone for a good mile or so until we came to the next junction. I got off, back on and the accident was just the other side of the junction. I indicated, got flashed in immediately and went on my merry way.

Jobs a good un, saved me a 45 on the way back

I go right up to the signs saying merge in turn and that’s what I do, merge. The vehicle who should allow me to merge seldom backs off to allow me to complete the legal maneuver, but they back off 99% of the time when they realise that the blinking amber light on the side of my truck is not a request, but a warning that my vehicle will be heading in that direction very soon. If they aggressively try to prevent me from doing the correct thing, I respond in kind, I get satisfaction from it when I watch them nearly crash into the car in front in a futile effort to stop me moving over and then spend the duration of the roadworks looking at my back doors.

I actually had a bloke give me a thumbs up and tell me it was hilarious a couple of weeks ago when I was suddenly confronted by an unmarked lane closure after the truck in front turned off and I was faced with a lane full of cones, the indicator went on and over I went, despite the best efforts of the car behind the car I was next to, I’m sure it really ■■■■■■ them off, but it ■■■■■■ me off that they don’t know the rules of the road, although I don’t let it develop into a rage, unlike far too many these days who absolutely will not allow anybody in front of them, no matter what.

It’s a bit like these ‘Smart’ stretches where it goes into 4 lanes, and very few move over turning it from a 4 lane stretch to a 3 lane (blocked) stretch, or when the hard shoulder is opened up, many are reluctant to use it for some obscure reason.

I use the M42 past Birmingham airport every day and in the morning when the hard shoulder is live some times i’m the only person using it. As for the original question I’d have done exactly the same. Too many people now think they are traffic police, if they want to sit in crawling in traffic looking at an empty lane next to them fine. Just don’t try and stop someone else using it.

Yep, as a night driver I encountered plenty of instances where around 2100 or there abouts, they started coning of a closure, but are only halfway through. Thank you very much, as long as I can do it clean and without endangering the road crew, don’t mind if I do.
Right past a left or straight on queue at roundabout, everytime.
Straight to the cones, yes, but at a low speed. (Rob… ) so as to avoid needing emergency manoeuvres if a twunt pulls out in front.
My favourite, stretches of motorway, like M42, M5 past Bristol, take hardshoulder (for junction ■■ only ) , exit, and rejoin after roundabout. …

Be quick or be dead.
