Understanding analogue tachos

Only recently got my licence and was looking at the tachos I was using when training and I can’t remember how to understand and “read” the black lines that appear in the centre part of the tachos. The area that is just above where the “v” is to show your distance. Hope I’m talking sense  . Is there a website that I can look at or can someone explain to me what it means please.

ps. assuming this is the right part of the forum to use.

I think you mean the activity or mode line. The different thickness of the line shows the different modes recorded. The thinnest line shows periods of break/rest, next is POA, then other work and when the line is the thickest it shows driving.

have a look at this pdf (you will need a pdf reader i use foxit or sumatra there is also one from adobe)
u can also get this pdf / booklet from and vosa testing station

hope it helps mark

Thanks for the link.

Does this help?

This may be clearer though it doesn’t show any POA.

Thanks for the images. Would you be able to repost the last one please tachograph and the right hand side is missing.

Thanks for the images. Would you be able to repost the last one please tachograph and the right hand side is missing.

I assume you must be viewing on a small screen as the whole image is showing on my screen

Try zooming out a bit to get the whole image in view, on Windows hold down the Ctrl key and keep pressing the minus (-) key on the keyboard numpad, to revert to full size press Ctrl + 0.

Alternatively download the image to your computer to view.

If neither of these options work or are practical let me know and I’ll re-size the image and re-post it tonight when I get home.

hi tachograph

that pics not bad except there would be an in infringement on it on the line by pen at 10 cos is hiding some of the trace lines, i was always told to put them on the back so it did not interfere with the trace lines

Me too, there is a place on the back if you want to scribble on your cards. Also Surname Forename, Forename Surname. No problem as long as it is full name and not nickname or initials.

My mate Adam Adam told me that when he worked at Spencer and Marks :stuck_out_tongue:

Managed to save it onto my pc and view it. Thanks tachogrpah.

Actually Del whilst you may have a problem with lines on the front of the chart VOSA don’t have a problem with it.
In fact one company I was driving for insisted on lines being drawn on the front of the chart to show start and finish times.

I believe VOSA prefer surname then first name as it’s less likely to leed to conflicts with different people who have the same surname name.

This one is from a six year old post

Probably a waste of time printing the grid on the back nowadays, the Government could raise much needed money by selling advertising space to KFC or McDonalds

It’s also the one currently used in GV262-2
