Today I pulled up outside a site and was just discussing PPE requirements and general OTT H&S directives with the chap I was delivering equipment for. I explained that we are getting asked for chevrons to be fitted to the rear of our vehicles for working on roadworks, whilst on a van that it fairly easy on a beavertail it’s a little more tricky to organise.
I am of the opinion that this

is fairly obvious especially when the LED flashing lights are going.
However as can be seen from the debris it is not obvious enough as a 7.5t managed to drive straight into the back of it shortly afterwards
I looked at your photo for ages before I realised there’s actually a truck. It’s almost invisible, merges almost completely into the background!

I agree and the flashing LED lights would make the vehicle even harder to see
Seriously though, how much damage was done to the 7.5 tonner, the debris on the road doesn’t look good for the other driver
It was a plastic Atego and hit at low speed (10mph ish) I’d pulled away from the gate to allow a vehicle on site to leave, this other vehicle had done likewise and was stopped about 10m behind me. When the site vehicle had left the 7.5t came charging down the hill rather than reverse up it
The driver was seemingly uninjured although confused and unable to offer an explanation and purely said " I don’t know what happened"
He’d done a reasonable amount of damage to his vehicle (and broke my lights
) After I’d left it occurred to me that maybe he’d blacked out or had some other issue so I called his company and let them know that their driver didn’t seem 100%
They were going to call him and check his wellbeing. Hopefully he’s OK.
