Umbrella's and multiple agencies

I need some help please folks. Basically the situation is that I am a new pass and I have registered with 5 agencies (soon to be 7). So far I have only done work for one agency and they basically pushed me down the umbrella route saying they don’t do PAYE. I guess I was gullible to believe that but they gave off the impression that if you don’t go umbrella then no work. Whatever. So I have done some work for them and been paid by the umbrella company but I have a question.

If in the coming weeks I do work for say all 5 agencies how on earth do I get paid properly as no doubt some will be just straight PAYE and others will be umbrella. How can they keep my tax and NI contributions correct? It seems so confusing to me as I am used to just being on PAYE from one employer.

I’m definitely no expert here, but it looks like you’ll pay Basic Rate on 6/7 and have one as your “main job”. You’ll then have to claim it back once you A: Get a permanent job or B: The 5th of April rolls around again.

But this is on the assumption that all but one count as “a second job”.

Don’t worry too much umbrella schemes won’t last much longer
