Got a few shifts this week through a new agency. With a big bread firm. 1am starts. £14 p/h for class 2. Not to be sniffed at.
Thing is payroll is done via a company called Red Ark. Anyone know anything about them? Potential pit falls? Umbrella type scheme?

Why would anyone take a job when they don’t know from whom or where or who’s paying the wage
Do people not ask do people just sit there at interviews and not ask
I know it would explain a lot if that’s the case in regards to meeting a lot of brain dead people in my travelling but I put that down to them not been able to tie there shoe laces or wash themselfs or dress themselves not taking a job when they know nothing about it

That was my next question do I tie my laces before or after I wash??
When I was on agency they used a 3rd party to do payments, but was PAYE and not charged for it. Just simpler to have someone else handle the tax than have a payroll dept.
Unless they start charging a fee then it should be fine.
Cant find much on company beyond a listing for Red Ark Solutions Ltd. which i assume is them. From Hamilton, Scotland.

Cheers,
Yes that will be right. Spoke to a few guys with different agencies & it appears to be quite common to have wages paid via a third party.
I work full time permenant for a smallish company… for 3 years while been.there used get a paper pay slip every Friday.
But since 1st January all done online via sage had to register on there site and have log on there just to see my pay slip every Friday.
I did ask if could keep paper one as don’t trust online . Was told no everything is going digital now.
So sage now has all my pay details bank ni number etc.
But say sage gets hacked somone gets my details? I didn’t ask for it was forced into it?
Sage to keep their security up to date. If they are hacked and your details are stolen providing Sage are honest and quick to admit it’s happened, then you should be able to minimalise the fallout. To a point bank details themselves aren’t much good to anyone unless they know your passwords and pin etc. Sadly, it seems that company reputation is more valuable than client/customer account security and these ■■■■ never tell anyone until it’s too late.
It’s one more thing to have to think about and I don’t like my details being spread all over the the net or stuffed into the cloud any more than you do.

Your employer has the legal right to choose whether payslips are online or paper.
You should be able to download Pdf’s, or something similar, of your wageslips and /or print them out.
Your employer / sage certainly has all those details but the rules, responsibilities and penalties for not looking after them are strict.
At the end of the day your name and address is 99% certain to be in the public domain, if you have ever written a cheque out against your bank account then at least one other person has got your bank details, I am sure a capable scammer could get your NI number pretty easily too.
I would be more concerned about all the paper listings of that type of information that your employer has floating around, as well as previous employers, that may well be dumped in bin bags (not saying it is though). But you can’t do much about that either Sorry
We have done factory / office clearances after bankruptcies and the like and the paperwork that is floating around is quite shocking. (We destroyed it but that’s not to say everyone would.)
axletramp:
How would this affect an employee who hasn’t “gone digital” yet?
Would the firm have to print them out a payslip?
Not according to the government website I am afraid :-
Payslips: employee rights
Your employer must provide you with a payslip.
They don’t have to do this if you’re:
not an employee, eg a contractor, freelancer or ‘worker’
in the police service
a merchant seaman
a master or crew member working in share fishing (paid by a share in the profits or gross earnings of a fishing vessel)
Your payslips can be used as proof of your earnings, tax paid and any pension contributions.
Employers can choose whether they provide printed or electronic (online) payslips.

To answer your original post, it is not uncommon for small firms to use external payroll providers. I run my own business and this is what I do. My payroll services provider has now changed to the online Sage services, and it’s brilliant.

Cheers. Just got back into haulage last September after 10 years out. This is my first agency job since then. Shows how much technology has changed way things are done
To be fair sage is ok easy to use. Never had a problem since they started using it. And yes if needed can print a pay slip out.
Im.just uneasy at having my personal details online to be honest. .
But guess it’s the way we have to be these days. God help.us if the internet was to ever be cut off or hacked. The world.would stop
