Umbrella company

that’s BS mate, stay away from them. most agencies offer PAYE, Ltd or umbrella. Umbrella is considered a NONONO as they have been know screwing the drivers tax-wise.

if they cannot do PAYE, say good bye to them and sign up with another, imho

do ask about PAYE, i’d say try and insist on it.

you have the option of going limited but that would mean you need to register your company and most likely have an accountant (£60-£100pm) which is not cheap, but at least you won’t screw you as Umbrellas. In theory you can sort your taxes on your own but that would require a number of long nights studying the subject

Stay away from Umbrella! Regardless of what they may claim YOU alone are responsible for your own Tax affairs. Instruct someone who comes highly recommended and you can fully trust.

Yeah, I’d stay away from an Umbrella scheme. Its a house of cards thats just waiting to collapse.

I used Umbrella for a few months. They did tax and nic as Paye does but you have a possibility to claim something through its system on its website for example mileage, meals, night out or whatever you need to work. From my experience, they would accept everything without checking off - I claimed my £360 sat nav and they never asked me for a receipt

Ask yourself why the agency is recommending a particular umbrella company to you.

Probably for commission and it makes their life easier as they don’t have to sort out your PAYE, NIC, holiday rights etc. Just a nice easy gross payment to the umbrella for all the drivers on their books who use the umbrella.

Plenty of posts on here about setting up your own Ltd Co which is a better route than umbrella but not for everyone as there is an amount of admin and accounting etc you need to do yourself.
