Was looking online at Richies LGV trainingschool in Glasgow.
For £2600 you can do your LGV C, LGV C+E & PCV D or
Pick an ADR (Dangerous Goods) and Lorry Loader (Hiab) course instead.
This course can be completed in stages to suit your needs.
Does this look like good value? would you advise a newbie to do these additional courses? or just focus on the driving fisrt?
Dan_1986:
Why is training cheaper up there compared to down south area??
Dan
Hi Dan,
It’s generally accepted that the cost of living is higher in the South than it is in the North.
Another point worth noting is that market forces are at work in the training industry just as they are everywhere else, so if there’s quite a few providers fairly near to each other, then there’ll be some rather keen pricing.
Glasgow has quite a number of training providers, and it’s in the North, so it’s no surprise that one of them is trying gain an edge.
“5 days:Â What more can we say! The best licence for the road transport industry.
Trainees must hold LGV Category C licence.
Can account for 4 days (28 hours) credit towards Drivers’ CPC.”
Has anyone any opinions on whether these courses are worth doing as a beginner?
How much more employable do they make you?
How much extra cash are they likely to make you?

How can this count as 28 hours cpc?
Some trainers have driver training approved by DSA/JAUPT for DCPC
That can be for C if already got C1 or for CE if already got C
On a standard 5 day course with 2 trainees in the cab then both are learning/being trained for over 7 hours per day but tests are not part of DCPC so day 5 is not included

There is, apparently, an error in this. It should read ADR orHiab.
It doesnt’ include Mod 4 for either class.
Test fees and VAT are included, they say.
But, this is remarkable value from a reputable trainer.
It just begs the question, why? When a trainer the size of Richies has to work for next to nothing, that’s a bit concerning. Hope this climate is confined to the far north!!

My boy was made redundant almost two years ago from a 7.5 tonne job.
Since then he has had only a few days agency work, but in between jobs,he has spent over £3,000 on courses,Hiab,ADR,updated his Counterbalance fork lift licence, full CPC,and lastly took his class 2.
When he goes for a job with a handfull of qualifications,he more often than not is told by some desk jockey to,“Come back when you’ve got some experience”!.
Must be ■■■■■■■ soul destroying for all these young lads in the same position.
I have over 40 years experience in the industry,I am looking for a way to bottle and sell it!
