a701 has a few hair raising bits =)
mazz:
The A350 from Shaftesbury to Blandford - you pray that another hgv isn’t coming in the opposite direction as the road is very narrow more like a B road
A nice drive though and as professionals ( ) we should be driving according to the conditions.
No votes for the A75 or the A68?
Or the appalling M4 in Wales - two lane/ three lane at random and clueless numpties who think that you should stop at the dotted line before joining the carriageway
dave75:
The A82 Glasgow to Inverness, several fatalities every year.A9 Perth to Thurso, several fatalities every year.
A96 Aberdeen to Inverness, several fatalities every year.
A87 Invergarry to Uig, several fatalities every year.
All of these roads require upgrading badly, lots of campaigns/petitions to do so but the Scottish government think a new road bridge to ease congestion into Edinburgh is a better way to spend their money. After all, what’s a few deaths here and there when traffic is slowing to a crawl in the home of the scottish government?
What a beautiful drive though! Would certainly be in most folks top 3 drives I’d say.
talking ot the a68…the one above.
the a69, is fricking awesome to drive.
How about the A59, been stuck on there a few times coming back down (East) from Blubberhouses because someone thought the wall looked nice.
Officially, the A66 is the UK most dangerous road in terms of fatalities. Probably lost the top spot since they twinned some more of it though.
I go with roger, the A701 and A702 will punish you severely in terms of damage if you get it wrong, and that’s not hard to do with the distinct lack of road signage for bends along them.
Change ‘dangerous roads’ to ‘roads where people drive dangerously’.
Any road within a 5 mile radius of an R.M depot.
The A272 from petworth to Midhurst, twisty, narrow and a bloody nightmare in the summer with all the bikers out trying to commit suicide
- all those sliproads too short to gain speed and just wide enough for a car (A1/A47, A1/A606 come to mind first but there’s plenty more),
- many places on dual-carriageways where right turns are allowed
The Cat and Fiddle is supposed to have the most serious problem along with many other biker routes. I reckon the TT circuit is the most scary road though.
Guy Martin on the limit in 2010
I would say any road where hgv,s can only go 40 mph but cars can go 60 mph is a dangerous road because most car drivers hate sitting behind a lorry doing 40 when legally they can do 60, this mixture is a recipe for a serious smash from time to time

Hiya …well said that man make it 50mph for all and the problems would go away i,am sure.
and hammer the reps doing crazy speeds mind you motorbike could go faster than 50
because most truckers have a bike and need to let of steam now and then.

It isn’t the roads that are dangerous, it is the pillocks that use them!
Totally agree.
What a [zb] read that’ll make. There’s more than enough guff spoken about this job as it is. Still jobs for the boys and all that
merc0447:
A9 isnt a dangerous road but it users are - its probably claimed more lorry drivers lives than most. You could be going about your business and 2 artics coming round the bend with one trying to overtake - think they put something in the water up there.
Aye, that’ll be the whiskey
and how about Coventry city ring and its interchanges?
I’d say The Grain Road (A228?) that goes to The Isle Of Grain and Thamesport has to be up there.
Very narrow, lots of adverse cambers, and the final destination is a container port where you could literally have anything in a vehicle that’s notoriously top heavy.

groovy greg:
the m25, its a notorious roadworks black spot, they appear out of nowhere, you find your self suddently swerving as a “merge in turn” and a line of cones suddenly appears 3 ft infront of you without warning,It’s ROG’s lot who came up with that idea. They prefer it if everyone can merge as close as possible to the cones to maximise utilisation of the closed lanes as much as possible .Which is why they usually put in a sign telling you that there’s roadworks 1 mile ahead but they only tell you which lanes are closed when you’re too close to the closure for it to make any difference.
Which is probably why they fitted all trailers with side guards to help zip merging by pushing the cars on the inside out of the way instead of going over the top of them.
Doesn’t work with containers though.

I worry about anything that is funded or promoted by BRAKE, they are the most uninteresting group of tree huggers you will find, the crap they have come up with out of the statistics that are freely available on the internet. They can twist a story to suit the agenda of Mary Williams.
Speed doesn’t kill, bad driving kills!

I’m right there with you WN. I’ve been around well over half a century and in that time have witnessed ever reduced driving standards, increased muppetry, loads of impatience and discourtesy, but never ever have I seen tarmac get up and bite anybody
