UK Border Agency Mobile Scanner - Mercedes

Wish I had got a pic of this earlier when at Stranraer - StenaLine… Didnt realise Ireland were harbouring Immigrants … Maybe checking for drugs? God knows.

If you can picture a Merc Wrecker as this had the same sort of lay out and had a huge swinging arm/arm style bridge that comes out for obviously lorries/coaches etc to go through…! Max height was 4.6metres. It was a left ■■■■■■ Merc 59 reg…

Anyone else seen it?

No pics but copied from the UKBA Website:-

Gamma scanners
The gamma scanner is a mobile system, mounted on a lorry, that uses gamma rays to produce pictures of the contents of vehicles and containers. Without entering the vehicle or container, it can detect people and smuggled goods inside.

If a vehicle is chosen to be searched in this way, it is driven to the scanning area. The driver and any passengers are asked to stay in a waiting room. The gamma-ray scanner is then driven along the length of the vehicle.

The scan takes about a minute and produces an image on a monitor in the scanner’s cab. A trained officer interprets the image and will decide whether any further action is necessary

There ya go, fella…

This was taken a while ago at Killingholme.
For some reason they seem to concentrate on Irish fridges

I got pulled last Thursday night in Harwich, probably because I don’t usually run into the UK that way…

Not what you saw SC, but guessing a similar thing?

I thought they had stopped using them because they needed the permission of the immigrants in the truck under human rights laws :unamused:

No, they just give a warning in about 25 languages before they start the machine, It doesn’t matter what you are carrying it always makes me feel like a criminal when they select you for the walk of shame :stuck_out_tongue:

Insellaffe (SPL) has the right truck. The one on the low loader looks like a heavy lifting crane lol…

I have seen one in Belgium which was based on a heavy lift fork truck that the police use.

I think that is the old truck, which has been replaced with the Merc.
If you look at the last picture it says “Freight X Ray Unit” on the back.
