As a general rule of thumb when reading a job advertisement, you should expect to work twice as many hours as the ad states for half as much money as it states.

30+ for insurance purposes!! What kinda work will that be then, first time I’ve seen that
Hi chappy261, perhaps the company have managed to wangle a discounted insurance premium by voluntarily adding 5 years to the normal age requirements in the same way that you can reduce a car insurance premium for having a higher voluntary excess??
It does make sense in these financially troubled times. There’s also the added bonus that it would tend to attract only the more experienced drivers, so IMHO it’s probably quite a smart move.

if that was the case dave, i would find it very insultive as im 26years old, im married, i have a family with 3 kids, a mortgage, clean criminal history and in good health but where as my mate tony is the opposite and he’s nearly 32 year old!! sometimes the age of the person doesnt reflect what they are like as a person.

Hi chappy261, I can’t help but agree with you mate.
That’s what happens when anybody simply goes by statistics, paints everything with a 6" paintbrush and then throws common sense out of the window.
Your own case is an excellent example of an exception to the rule, but will insurers ever take anything on a case by case basis??
I doubt it.

At least you’ve got past the magical “25yo” mark.
I doubt if it has anything to do with insurance as I can’t see a company being able to get away with
because they have struck a deal with an insurance company?
If thier insurance states a driver has to be 30 then they cannot employ anybody younger, the same goes with companies who only employ those over 25 for HGV jobs as other companies are able to employ drivers under 25 years old.

Why do you find it insultative, it nothing personal because they don’t like you. I know young drivers who are sensible and very capable and plenty of older driver who you wouldn’t trust with a wheelbarrow let alone a truck. It doesn’t come down to induvidual cases but mathematics.

hi dave, thanks for agreeing with me! its life that the statistics makes the answers for the rules! its good to past the magical 25 now, ive had a lot more drives with agencies in my spare time.
the thing that worries me now is, thats the first time ive seen a 30yo+ job offer but will it be the last■■?
for the insurers to make it like that, they would be rite b rds to do it!!
