Uh Oh ....

A23 closed during night now - serious diversion route puts miles and time on journey - avoid!!

For anyone that travels down the A23 regularly this will be a mixed blessing … http://www.highways.gov.uk/roads/projects/3998.aspx

That downhill stretch will benefit from becoming 3 lanes (and from a long overdue resurfacing), but look at the timescale! 1 lane each way for years. Glad I work nights as that stretch is a nightmare at rush hour as it is without lane closures.

You obviously travel in the middle of the night!!
Its busy most times because its a bottle-neck (3 lanes into 2) after the motorway and sometimes there are tailbacks as motorists jostle for position going into two lanes. It can be dangerous on the southbound due to deceptive bends/ bad surface/ boy racers! Also dangerous on the nothbound with car/van drivers trying to pass slower moving trucks on the uphill stretch! At least if its three lanes we will be able to get in the outside lane northbound to avoid being pulled into the VOSA weighbridge at the top of the hill!!  (only joking - trucks will be restricted to the nearside crawler lane).
