UAE

Has anyone worked in the UAE driving petrol tankers? If so is uk licence valid over there?

United Arab Emirates. There have been posts about this subject, and a Trucknet member worked in the Middle East.
KBR is a Texan firm that trained drivers then sent them abroad, to Iraq and Afghanistan on fuel tankers or general haulage under armed convoys.
The member on here had a photo of an army vehicle on his profile but I can’t remember his name.
Willi Betz venture to the ME.
Dutch firm Ryanhart as well.
Earnings are tax free but you are allowed so many days away from the UK to not pay tax in the UK on pay abroad.
Domicile, non domicile status for tax purposes.Resident, non resident.

Majority of the drivers over there are Indian immigrants, can’t imagine the money would be all that.

I am not sure but guessing an International driving permit from the AA or RAC in the UK.
A passport photo, declaration from somebody in authority who knows you then sign it.
It has printed languages in the permit, including Arabic.
I don’t think you need to pass a Lgv test and get a licence in the UAE.
Go for it. Apart from no alcohol.
Fast cars but no fast women as they are covered up.
They swim in the sea fully clothed or wear a special swim suit.
Their laws are strict with severe punishment for something that is trivial in other countries.
Hands chopped off for stealing, public capital punishment.

It depends what Emirate you’re in with regards to alcohol, Dudai is O.K in hotels etc but Sharjah is dry, not sure about the rest.
Again with swimming etc, Dubai is O.K with swimming trunks etc on the beaches. In the city having knees and shoulders on show (men and women) is a bit frowned upon but becoming more acceptable. Sharjah is a no no with shorts etc but again, beaches are O.K.

All lorry drivers I saw appeared to be Indian or Pakistani, and from what I was told they do most of the manual jobs so wages may not be that good.

We are just not in the same league as some of these third world guys. Let’s face it, any muppet can drive a wagon so like has been said we’ve probably got no chance of these jobs if they are decent money.

I’ve looked in to emigrating recently a small amount. If you are a HGV mechanic you could be on £15 per hour plus in AUS, NZ, CANADA & maybe the USA, not sure of the last one, probly not with all the Mexicans. You could try mine working in AUS or NORWAY as they ain’t gonna let many 3rd worlders in by choice but haven’t really looked in to this.

New Zealand would be my choice, Lord of the Rings Scenery & no traffic but I don’t think there’s a demand. Least they drive on the right side of the road!

May have more of a look at Norway or Sweden on the mining front, Hutpik (SP), member on here does that, 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. Seems a bit remote & cold but better than the M25 or the M6 when there’s been a fatal & you’re trying to get home.
