On thursday I was sent to a little pokey hole in the middle of Wigan.once I had picked up I needed to trace My steps back to the m6.
Easy thing to do was u-turn at the lights ahead of Me.1st time Ive ever done it.Did it easy, everyone stayed out of My way,no horns,no 5 finger shuffle signs, nowt.
But if pc plod was knocking about,do You think He would of stopped Me for a rollocking?.
Any of You Folks do this often?.
Have done a few times anywhere that it will fit, i get a few smiles and thumbs up normally. It’s not every day that the public see a trailer spinning round on a pivot, most of them are actually in disbelief that an artic can actually do that.
I done it last week in Sussex on the T-junction to Water lane near Pulborough. Great fun.
Me too.I wind the window down then stick my arm out to gesticulate that i intend to do a turn.As said,no horns or offer of coffee beans.
They can see what the intention is and they hold back until the turn is complete.

Perfectly legal if there isnt a no u turn sign at the junction.

+1 But the idea of “screwing it round” make’s me shudder

Especially fully laden with a liquid load… its definitely squeaky bum time when the trailer starts rocking when “screwing it round”
Done it once in Wimbledon, i missed my turning
Yes it did feel good…Have to admit though. It can’t do the rear tyres much good.Mines a tri axle car-transporter,the tyres were scrubbing like hell.I wasnt heavy though, only had one car on.
Done it a few times at crossroads, no horns or coffee beans. Was running back to the M4 from near Bath recently but the A350 was blocked and some WPC gave me instructions on how “You big guys” should turn round. She wanted me to pull past a little side street then blindside reverse into it then back the way I came from. Why not drive into it then back out I said but when I got there I chanced it and screwed it round no problem.
Like has already been said, some people don’t realise what you can do with them. I’ve screwed it round at painted islands before and the car loons coming in the opposite direction start going the wrong way round it to get cracking on. The look on there face as you keep going and leave them nowhere to go
Talking of U-Turns, I saw some idiot do one on the A38M Aston Expressway last night as the queue was from the M6 all the way back into the city. No THAT, is risky

That’s what I do, done it a few times and never had a problem.
best avoided
but when needs must

Just dont try it in a magnum, the lock aint so good on em!!!
Have done it when needs must but same as in yards rather not as it’s not tyre friendly.

This.
Dont normally but as said when you have to, last time was in west Bromwich turned down the side of the footie ground missed where I wanted but came up to a set of lights thought “I wonder?” So round she went just about got a few funny looks off car drivers tho lol luckily I was empty.
First one I ever did was on Buckingham Palace Road, couple of sets of lights down from Victoria Station. There is one layby for loading on the Red Route, and if someone’s in it, you can drive around in circles for at least an hour.
Surprised even myself, let alone every motorist in sight.
I’ve checked since and it’s the only set of lights without a sign. Probably an oversight by Boris, but I’m not knocking it
Done one years ago . Plod sent me down a diversion then another plod came screaming up the other way stoped me and said " you won’t get through drive there’s a smash by the bridge spin it and follow me"
Don’t think the tarmac boys were to happy with the freshly laid tarmac lifting as 38t spun round following plod on 2 wheels
I’ve done it, but very rarely. I’d rather drive 2 miles further on & look for a roundabout or do a 3 point turn in to a side road than risk ripping a Suzi out & stopping dead or pulling a super single off the rim
(if your fully loaded)
I came unstuck many years ago round the back of Deptford. I’d been to a building site with concrete pre fab walls. Decide to spin the tandem axle round in the middle of a side street cross roads on a lovely hot summers day… what a mess. I’m glad the boys from the black stuff wasn’t watching me.
Can’t do it in waggon n drag ,its bad enough that I have to deliberatly over shoot small roundabouts then have a shunt !
