this is why you should never sit or stand in front of a tyre that is inflating
Was the tyre a remould or recap on a 3rd time casing ? Someone got killed in the quarry near me years ago by a split rim .
That’s why we have idiots… so we can laugh at 'em.

dunno but it shows what happens when tyres do fail, guys lucky to be alive i would say
Some years ago,I saw a picture of the imprint on the ceiling of a guy who had been sitting on a tractor tyre when it exploded, killed him instantly.
They used to have cages to put the wheels in when inflating, think it was more for the old style split rims. Cant be much of an issue these days otherwise all the tyre call out firms would be using them for 'elf & safety reasons. Still, do it with a well worn tyre that’s been remoulded and re-cut I bet the risk is increased. (Don’t know if you can re-cut a re-mould?).
That was Unlucky & Lucky.
Unlucky/Stupid to be leaning on the tyre in the first place & Extremely Lucky that it didn’t land on his head. Phew !
Never, Never, Never stand near a tyre whist its being inflated, you never know if its been run flat or at low pressure/damaging the carcass. (even a car tyre can Smash your Balls off, if you stand in the wrong place)
I bet that woke him up…
Tested out a brand new tyre cage whilst changing a Bedford tyre (split rim) years ago. Had changed many before but always inflated them under the truck for safety. Anyway used the cage and tyre blew off…took cage off wall with it…or at least the 4 bolts securing it where pulled out . Manufacturers we’re stood 30ft away watching me use it and don’t think they had even realised the force a blown tyre exerts when it go’s. Anyway they said they’d make the bolts stronger and deeper.

Does that include adding in a bit of air on a petrol station forecourt with your car?
Yeah. Well, depends if your a glass half full or glass half empty type of chap.
It’s very dangerous to inflate a tyre that’s been run flat and even more so if it’s still warm from running.
A workmate of mine pumped up a super single that had run at 50psi, good thread, just a slow puncture. At about 80psi it blew and left him needing skin grafts on his arm.
If you notice, the call out lads all have a hose that clips on to the valve and is long enough for them to stand out of the way

Did it have a white chalk outline around it ?
I looks like the tyre bead popped onto the rim as it should and was over inflated or faulty and the bead then popped of the rim to the outer side causing the wheel to fly like a rocket.

Technically yes, but highly unlikely, it’s only 30 lbs, just stand to the side to preserve the Crown Jewels.
Any compressed air can be dangerous in the wrong hands.
ower here if you turn up at a shop with a split rim ,they take it off you and cut it up! except forklift type tyres ,they must be changed at a registered tyre shop by a trained employee.
when blowing up tyres no more holding it on …you must use a clip on to the valve type with 1mtre extension so you can stand at the side…written warning otherwise.
