Last time I went through my mate was in front , we stopped and the phone rang. I got no money he says, haha

30 years since I drove a wagon through the tunnel but as far I know it is still the same and all commercials have to stop in the lane you mention and be inspected. Some used to be escorted through but not sure if that is still the case.

Tyneside

Tyne Tunnel heading North is dual carriageway, but, approx 250 yards from the mouth of the tunnel changes into 3 lanes with the left lane becoming effectively a slip road to take you up & over. For the inspection lane you want to be in this left lane but instead of going up & over you can proceed into the inspection lane but have to give way to traffic coming down the hill & into the tunnel from your left. If you miss the entrance into the inspection lane the worst that can happen is you go up the hill to the roundabout & back where you came from (sounds more complicated than it is). Hope this helps.

I came through last week in the car and saw the new inspection bays. It used to be a pain with ADR. We had to physically check the fifth wheel & turn off the gas bottle that supplied the night heater, much better to barrel through Newcastle/Gateshead and over the bridge

Yes there is indeed an inspection lane that’s used for ADR.

As they are currently doing MAJOR roadworks in Boldon at Testos roundabout on the A19 2 miles before the tunnel I’d avoid it at all costs during the day as it’s a carpark in its current state.

Best bet would be A1(M) over the Tyne.

I went through last week and an ADR tanker must have used that lane as he was getting an ■■■■■■ through the tunnel from it.

I had no money on me either so was card payment for me, northbound they just let me straight through without paying, as well as the bloke in front.

As said above if not pushed for time I’d go over the bridge for the 20 or so minutes you gain.

thxs all

I think I’ll take a 15m dyslexia break, rather than one on the derv pumps…
