Two 'techy' questions from a relative newbie

Scenario:- C class 26 tonner in yard has to be moved from the area designated for unloading to an area 40 metres away used for loading. Vehicle never leaves the yard or touches a public road during this operation.

  1. Does the person who moves it require a C licence?
  2. Does a digicard have to be inserted?
    Thanks for your help

1.) No, as it isn’t going on the highway a licence isn’t required, although H&S might have something to say on the subect.

2.) No. It will register as being moved without a card inserted but it doesn’t leave the yard and VOSA have said they are well aware vehicles will be moved within a yard for loading and unloading purposes by shunters and warehouse staff who do not have a card.

Many thanks for that coffeeholic

I know this is off topic, but ive wandered about this for a while, when the wagons get moved about in the yard. Usually on a weekend when they grab keys and move them about.

Cheers! looks like im not the only one thinking along these lines lol!

I agree with Coffee, although I have to add that where we get ‘twitchy’ is if the driver moves a vehicle in the yard and at some time during the day drives an ‘in scope’ vehicle on the road, then the yard shunting will need recording.

but how would you know it was him that drove it earlier without the card in?

(playing devils advocate here?)

Thanks for your input guys
