Two tailift beautys

Ok say it as it is… :open_mouth: :open_mouth: travelling down the m4 westbound yestarday night when this 7 and half tonner daf passes me ,i had to look twice ,the tailift was just pushed up but the op failed to raise it and lock in its proper place :open_mouth: :open_mouth: so the tailift was covering his backlights and indicators :open_mouth: :open_mouth: pitch black around 22:00.

Then half hour later tosco,s finest range has used the tailift and left the side and front flaps up then raised the lift and forgot to fold them down :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :unamused:

Crack on you beauty,s …are hgv licences free with cornflakes this week. :open_mouth:

On some tail lifts the flaps to stay up in when the tail lifts are stowed away they don’t fold away only fold out for unloading.

seen such a 7.5 ton with Taillift down on Friday Night,i think. Goin the A12 North.
Maybe he has a reason why is Numberplate shall not be visible,if it is the same traveling that Route not just once

I wouldn’t slate him too much.
I once drove a Lorry from somewhere to somewhere else, can’t remember, but when I got to the destination my tail lift was almost dragging the floor. I thought it very odd as I always make a point of checking them.
Anyway,I unload, stow the tail lift and go on my way. Next place, and again the tail lift has dropped to about 12 inches off the floor. I do the drop then get some straps and once the tail lift is lifted, strap it up and take it straight to the workshop.

Turns out one of the hydraulic valves had failed and was letting the lift drop slowly.
The only way a driver can know about these things is when it happens, so maybe the guy you saw had no idea until he got to his drop.

Got to admit I’ve done that once. Before leaving the yard all vehicle checks done, paperwork in the cab ready to go, then realised I had a bit of time before I needed to leave so I dropped the tail lift so I could wash the back doors. Went to grab the hose and it was smashed where someone had run it over so gave up cleaning the back doors. Put the hose away then got distracted by chatting to another driver, cup of tea, smoke a ■■■ - usual stuff before leaving.

The vibrations caused the lock that keeps it upright to disengage so at some point it flapped down and locked in the horizontal position about 6 inches from the ground. Bloody lucky I didn’t rip the whole thing off going over a bump. It was only after an hours driving that an ex lorry driver stopped me in his car. Very grateful and embarrassed in equal measure!

Tesco use fleet off 10m trailers for express stores with that type of tail- lift flaps open design as I work for tesco 50 mph driver lol

Dropped one of the lads off in Newbury on Sunday and whilst waiting at Robin Hood roundabout to head back up to M4, artic shoots through from my left, driver on phone. Anyway, gets up behind him at j13, tailgate down…if I could’ve been arsed at that particular moment to force myself in and get along side him (plus he wasn’t hanging about), id’ve told him…he came off M4 at j15, possibly heading for a well known Dairy company, who may or may not have a Crest on the doors!
