One silly and one less silly.

Silly one: I saw today recovery truck towing broken down bus using bus-lane… Are they legally allowed to do it, as they are towing bus, or they should use normal lane, as they are recovery trucks? :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

the less silly one: Two days ago, I’ve been driving dual carriage way and there was an elderly gentleman driving wrong way. Lucky (and I mean that) for him, on the right lane (I was on the left) there was a police car. They stopped bumper to bumper and went to speak with him, but I had to go…

What happens next? Is his license revoked instantly? Will he get points or be prosecuted for dangerous driving? Or will he be sent for medicals?

All of the above I would hope.

His licence wouldn’t be revoked instantly and I guess that the other options would be down to the police officers decision.
There was a similar incident on one of the TV traffic cop programmes a while ago with an elderly man the wrong way on the M42 and I think that he was persuaded to surrender his licence and stop driving and that was the end of it.

The elderly driver could lose his licence but only after either a successful prosecution (court case) or proof he is medically unfit to drive a vehicle on the road (DVLA). Either way the decision is out of the hands of the police and can take some time.

The police would need to make the initial decision of wether to report/arrest him or simply give him a warning, so in that respect it is down to their decision.

I think Sovereign recovery have exemption as part of the TfL contract to use bus lanes in order to clear lanes quickly, but not 100% sure??

I think you have to use bus lanes sometimes to get to the garages, so if you’re recovering a truck back to the bus garage, what choice would you have?

the police would be on the alert for a polish lorry driver, as he thinks everyone else is driving in the wrong direction. :laughing:

Wasn’t there someone killed recently by an old fool that was basically blind? It ended up being the governments fault (or some load of nimby crap like that) because the police weren’t lgally allowed to take his licence away??
