In the late 90`s,a fridge wagon for Burlington Ocean Express took the corner too fast after leaving a road tunnel,on the national one, between Burgos and Vitoria, the local paper stated that the impact did not kill them both,as they suffered a heart attack ,seconds prior to crashing in the river, then crushed by the full weight of a fruit load,i guess, they knew their number was up,and the shock of knowing what was going to happen was their demise.
remember that day toby as if it was yesterday.
You know that tunnel, there are gravestones all over that road,it was a bad road, with some bad driving.
The summer was like a F1 circuit, with the Moroccans rushing down to Algercerias for the ferries, over taking on double white lines, overtaking on blind summits and on the corners.Over loaded vans and cars, with the axles touching the tarmac, they have clamped down on the weights now, they would take all the house contents on the roof, bikes, old tyres, and i saw, many times a whole kitchen sink.
Burlingtons had green and white Scanias.
By the late nineties Burlingtons was no more, they had become Continental Express in the early-mid nineties. Same wagons & drivers but in the new livery. They had some good lads on there in their day. Beggsy, Andy Pemm & the infamous “Burlington Brian” latterly of John Mann & Rennie Hogg to name just a few.
would it have been the tunnel, by pancorbo?

Yes it was Pancorba,bad corner.
My driving instructor for me class one was working for these when this happened or so he said. Said that he met these two blokes loading up with oranges the day before. Both top lads apparently. Did they used to run chocolate from uk to south Spain reload with oranges for uk. It was a few years ago when he told me.
