TV's

Looking to get a LCD TV. Driving a Renault Premium which has a 12v, 24v and ciggie lighter socket. Maplins have a 7" TV for £149.99 which seems to fit the bill. It is for car use from a ciggie lighter socket so will it be ok in the lorries ciggie lighter socket.

Cheers

Wayne.

just make sure the socket is 12volt

Buy a voltage dropper with enough power for the TV + some spare.

If you have the time, get a 24v light fitting, wire it up to a lighter plug, and use it as a voltage tester. The light is bright, 24v, Dim and it’s 12v. Somewhat easier than blowing up a 200 quid telly.

Try these TLC Direct Have seen one working in their shop and it looked fine, dont forget the price is +Vat.

Right, you lost me on all of that.

That looks like the same TV as maplins but a bit less ££££.
They also have a shop in Cardiff, I will pay them a visit in the morning.

I dont need any thing fancy, working 4 on 4off so only do 3 nights out. Parked up for 12 - 18 hours a day so some sort of entertainment is a must.

Voltage dropper - Converst 24v DC to 12v DC so it don’t fry your TV.

Truck electrics are 24v, car electrics are 12v. Some truck lighter sockets are 12v, some are 24v. Don’t plug a 12v telly into a 24v socket unless you want to fry bacon on it…

Get a fga lighter end with a 24 volt bulb on it and plug it in if its bright its 24v if its dull…you get the idea?.

I have had 2 tv,s for trucks when i used to do nighs out and both could run off 12 or 24 volt read the instructions first you might be surprised.

the sockets in a premium are 12volt in the middle hella small socket the one nearest the door 24volt standard size your telly will come with a big plug you can get adapters from lymm truckstop with a standard socket and a hella small plug on the end .

or maplins or your local caravan shop

Your ciggie lighter is more than likely 24v,I plugged my 12v fridge into lighter socket, luckily it only kept blowing the fuses, then someone told me it was 24v,then the problem was solved

i bought a 7" lcd tv on ebay for £31 plus £25 postage from hong kong it arrived in 3days works perfectly i have had no problems with it in 3 months and it came with a 12volt lead
i have just looked at that one at tlc direct and it is the same model

Correct.

The socket nearest the passenger door is marked as 12v the midlde one as 24v but what voltage is the ciggie lighter by the drivers door? My phone charger has no proplems in the ciggie lighter but don’t want to risk blowing the TV up.

Got a 5" one from Argos in the end. Bit more than I wanted to pay but a 3 year extended warrenty for £34.99 made it seem like a good buy, no hassle product replacement means I got a nice little set for 3 years.

try www.tgincar.com ~ they have an 8" r/c tv for £130.

personally, i’m looking at a mustek dtv-407 from www.3wisemonkeys.co.uk . its a portable(laptop style) 7" screen with built in dvd player AND digital freeview tv tuner. best of all it can be run from 12v 240v or its own battery provides 3hrs use. so you can charge it when driving, watch 3hrs of tv or dvd and not drain the truck batteries. and it only £195.99

they also do an 8" version for around £255

ive only goy 2 sockets in mine but the ciggie lighter is 24 volt mate

Never had much luck with tele’s and aerials. I’ve no patience for pratting about adjusting the aerial every two seconds everytime you move your arm or hand and I’ve never got a decent picture wherever I’ve been anyway. I get jealous when I see folks parked up for the night with a near perfect picture (from live tele) and all I can get is snow.

I was looking at a clever thing in Aldi last night.

It looked like a big brick, weighed about the same as 2 bricks and had wires going in and wires coming out :stuck_out_tongue:

It was a power pack for outdoor use, 3v 6v 12v and could be used to run laptops and TV’s etc, when it ran down, you either charged it from a cig lighter or the mains.

It seemed like a thing on purpose for trucks and boats

I’ll have to show you my satellite system and dvd setup one day.
The sat is a free to air receiver, with a nice size dish.
Works 12 volt or mains.
Run it through my 14" LCD with the sound through my 4 main stereo speakers.
