I turned up for work this morning at the stated time of 0445 what my agency told me but when I got there after bout 15 mins worth of phone calls by the manager I was told that I’d been cancelled this morning and wasn’t needed!
Am I still entitled to a days pay as I never received any phone calls or txts cancelling me
I would certainly expect a days wages in your case as you acted in good faith and turned up for your shift as (I’m assuming) you’d been requested to.
However, this is modern Britain and you are (I take it) an agency bod, so unfortunately this kind of thing goes with the territory. I’d certainly demand a days wages, but I wouldn’t bank on spending them, if you get my drift?

I’ve always been paid 8 hours if I’ve got to a job to find I’ve been wrongly booked or the job has been cancelled, as long as you turn up on time you should be paid.
I would as previously stated expect 8 hours. However I did shift before Christmas, it only lasted 6 hours, I got paid 6 hours. So think it depends on your agency.
Thanks for the replys! I’ve always been cancelled the day before so this was a new one on me! I’ll be giving the agency a ring shortly to see what they say

Shortly you got cancelled at 0445 you should have rung them no later than 0446 that way they will remember you now you are at home they will not care less.
If they refuse to pay you ask them if they like drivers not turning when required, it works both ways.
If the company cancelled at the last minute then they should pay and if the agency forgot to tell you then they should pay. In many other situations if you book or order something and don’t turn up you either lose your deposit or the full cost. No difference here as far as I can see, you fulfilled your side of the contract.
It is a tough call here. The question has to be how much you need the agency, are there other agencies near by that you can be registered with?I was once told to report for work at 23.30I turned up at 23.15 the manager sent me home saying you are no use to me at this time.I wanted you at 23.00.I tried to reason with him ,but he was a bellend .I phoned the agency in the morning and accepted 4 hours pay for my trouble.

This.
Also the above.
I’ve only once ever been cancelled upon arrival and not been paid 8hrs, so I agreed to work for the agency again on a silly o’clock start time and didn’t turn up and then made damned sure they knew why.
The agency was Heads recruitment and I was on for Stobart. I did put a thread up on here about it but can’t find it.
Every other time, I’ve always got the 8hrs - and when notifying the company, they usually find something for you to do - so just get them to sign your sheet and leave

Yep, I also did this, I turned up at 0400, was told I was cancelled, I repeatedly rang the 24hr mobile and the office (which gets forwarded) of the agency until they answered and told them I’d been cancelled and got them to look into it whilst I’m still on the premesis.
Well the agency just rang me! They said they havnt got a clue why I was cancelled and or who by! Said there will be investigating it! I said will I be receiving any pay for loss of earnings! They said it will be up to manager depending on the investigation! Said they ring me Monday!

This is one of them times that show that times should always be texted to you as proof
Spot on.
It’s rare that it’s happened to me, but on the occasion where it has, 8 hours is what I’ve got.
However. Be aware of the trick whereby the agency will find you another job, so that you end up working for the free 8 hours you have already got, because what they don’t want is to pay you for not working.
If you ignore your phone, you can then say that you went back to bed and didn’t here it, or something similar.

If you don’t get it, move on and then name and shame.
You fulfilled YOUR obligation, and it’s not your fault. If they try and pay you 4 hours, argue that you would have got at least 8 if you had have been given a job.

You should be entitled to a minimum 8 hours pay. Thats what it was in my long ago agency days. I’ve even been cancelled just before leaving home and got it.
This has happened to me many times. I always act in the same way which I think is only fair. I make every effort to get someone out of bed at the agency to answer the phone, either to me or to the cancelling customer. This gives the agency the chance to send me somewhere else nearby. I am prepared to compromise and accept 4 hrs, but ask for 8 which I usually get. I have had the odd occasion in the past when I have ended up with double bubble due to being re-allocated.
