Turned down for job

It’s always a nightmare. I once got a job that needed someone urgently because I said I had to give two weeks notice. They asked me if they paid me a bonus would I leave the other company immediately. I said I couldn’t as the previous company had always been fair to me. They gave me the job because it showed I wouldn’t drop them in the ■■■.

Sometimes it just happens mate, i put a seriously good bloke up for a job, a bloke whom i would trust absolutely and put my reputation at stake, he was interviewed by the wrong junior manager type who rejected him (n reason no follow up), but several idiots have been employed since who have done no end of damage and ■■■■■■ the company about, there is no rhymne nor reason to it, its the company that suffers through their own idiocy sometimes.

Don’t let it get to you, there’s always something else.

I concur. I got knocked back at the start of this year by Fedex after working across Christmas on what I thought was temp to perm… Used me up when I could have been coining it in at a number of other places, and then just replaced me with an outsider come February. Not happy. :frowning: Manager just took a dislike to me that’s all - but backed up by his own peers elsewhere within the business. So much for the American business model. :unamused:

No such experience this time though - I’ve “passed” my temp to perm this time around with what’s clearly a more reputable firm, and I’m now full time for Brakes. :sunglasses:

Congratulations on getting that Winseer, hope it proves a long term decent number for you.

The way i see Fedex drivers going about their work without a minute to live, i reckon you’ve got the better job mate.

Cheers. As you know, I have always disliked the move towards “Job & Knock Mentality” which is worst in those jobs where you are expected to put a 15 hour shift into 12 hours. What with this 10 hours work at night rule, how on earth do they still get people to do the 12-15 hours crap at pallet depots?

No such problems at Brakes now though. With the runs going to a schedule, one needs to run it like a bus service rather than rush about. Plenty of vacancies still there on the C2 work as well. I reckon it measures up well compared to places like 3663 or bidvest too. I’ll be signing up for the pension scheme and all, as I’ve got intentions to laying down roots here… I think it was my willingness to work sundays that stood up for me in the end. Over the past 3 years on agency, I’ve done all the jobs in their yard at some point, so can be used as a “floater” which I’m kinda used to, as it’s pretty much like still being on agency - but on a better salary. My feet are firmly under this table - and they’re staying there. :sunglasses:

Tamworth are still looking for artic drivers as far as I know, if anyone else is interested. I think there are C2 vacancies at ALL depots - people need to enquire at whatever their local depot is for details though. :grimacing:

Sometimes there isn’t a reason per se. I’ve had to make a decision between drivers that are as good as each other and you have to try and find the slightest edge to justify a decision.

I’m in no rush…

That is the American business model along with nepotism.

This has happened to me before but I was told the applicants were all of a very high std and the choice was difficult we will keep u on record and within 6 months got a start try not to let it get you down

  Like “Dehydrated Water - Add to taste” or “How to make a £Million? - ‘Start with £10m and lose some of it’”

I’d argue that if anything is really wrong with the American system - it’s “too many Chiefs and not enough Braves”. We’re familiar with the concept of the top 1% of American society having 99% of the wealth - but what about the bottom 1% doing 99% of the work? That would seem to contradict the “massive middle management” argument, but it’s not actually possible to do an entry-level job, “not do it”, - and fail to be noticed for “not doing it”. In the middle ground though? - Don’t drivers everywhere say things like “This place runs smoothly, until a suit turns up to turn it all upside down…”?

3) my assessor told me to make a mistake

I think that may have been the fault! Drive properly and don’t be misguided. Eg. If the assessor said go through a red light? Would you have? Possible he was looking for your thoughts rather than ‘the norm’ if you get what I’m on about.

If you did make a mistake, that was the mistake you made.

Yes i don’t like that number 3 either, why did the assessor want you to do something wrong, summat a bit fishy there.

Hmmm … mind games and psychological testing? For a driving job? What next, the assessor asking you why you hate your mother, whilst you negotiate a roundabout?

Hmmm I see a new pass time there. Going for assesments, just to scare the bejesus out of the assessor. … :sunglasses:

guessing that the assessor was making a jocular remark when he said that.
got knocked back at Securicor years ago (just prior to Omega) after passing 2 interviews. 3rd interview was with a computer which asked the same questions and got the same answers, failed that one! Don’t suppose you can accuse the computer of favouritism or nepotism.

I tried for Securicor donkeys years ago, not interested train up from within was the policy, which is fair enough and i have no problem with.

turned down for parcels but offered cash deliveries

Thanks for replies,
The job was for the well known logistics company whose colours are red and yellow, and what I have seen in last 2 years working their, on the agency in there, it might get mistaken for Ronald Macdonalds place.
The jobs is in a new warehouse opening in new year, on as a core driver,
I could go on agency in there but the core get treated better and long term the security and stability would of suited me.
I am 50 years old English, with a passport(british) and been on the trucks since the age of 24,i don’t mind agency cause It suits me at moment. And I have a clean hi-vis.
Just to clarify I am certain that the assessor was joking about making a mistake before going back to depot, but it was a relaxed talkative drive where everything went well and we seemed to get on well.
Back to job it turns out some of the people who turned up for job interview on a Saturday had a wasted day because it was sorted out before we all turned up as who got them,by 1 middle manager and a bit of brown nosing.
Nothing against the blokes who got the jobs but I could of been earning money or been with family, anyway onwards and upwards,
I only contribute on here rarely but I am reading the forum most days,Keep safe on the highways.

Yup, been there, done that, no less annoying though when you realise what was happening.

The bit I didn’t get was "Why on EARTH would anyone follow an instruction to throw the assessment?

If you wanted to do that - you’d just phone up, cancel it, and do something else with your unpaid day off instead. :bulb:

that’s right up there with

One fine day in the middle of the night
two dead men got up to fight
back to back they faced each other
drew their swords and shot each other

I reckon he is a ginger.

Bloody carrot heads, who do they think they are?
