Hi Derek,
I spend some time in Turkey during the winter and the Turkish keyboards are very difficult to use at first. The upper and lower case letters are not always on the same key.
We have a laptop now and many places have WIFI so it’s not a problem anymore.
Don
Thanks Don,thats what I meant,as in if we took a laptop to China or Japan, how would you use it then? regards derek

Hi Derek,
If your laptop is wireless enabled you can use it anywhere as long as you can get a signal.
I was touring China last year and there were wifi connections Beijing.
This site totalhotspots.com/ lists wifi hotspots worldwide.
Don
Thanks guys ,printed out pics on T/Net site and gave Mikkel the pics and T/N details so he’s off to ankara hopefully to log on to T/N.

They do NOT use the Cyrilic alphabet.
It used to be Arabic until 1923 when Mustafa Kemal Attaturk introduced Modern Turkish which uses the Latin alphabet,(Based on the early Greek alphabet).
In other words, same alphabet as ours, with a few additions.
I use AltaVista for translations, but they don’t appear to offer Turkish.I’m sure if you Googled you wil find a translation service that should do it.
If you look at the bottom of this Turkish visa they do not even use the Turkish language
Notice the text, Employment Prohibited but then below that, they even have the cheek to ask for a crisp £5 note.
Hi Wheel Nut,
The visa fee is now £10 or €10 according to the mood of the immigration official.

That must equate to about 7 Trillion Turkish Lira by now Don
But how did other nationalities pay for these visas? did they have to change DM or French Francs for Sterling?

Hi Malc,
A few years ago the Turks knocked six noughts off the Lira and today’s exchange rate is about 2.3 lira to the pound sterling. Inflation has gone through the roof, diesel is about £1.30 per litre.
Our Danish friends don’t pay for their visa on entry for some reason but have to pay a lot more than we do to extend a three month visa.
The Turkish med coast is a very pleasant place to spend the worst of the winter months.
