Turbochargers from 60's and 70's

Hi all,

Regarding the first trucks with turbochargers, what was the best rated (GARRETT,HOLSET,KKK,SCHWITZER,etc)
among UK drivers in those (60’s - 70’s) days?

It means, wich make was recognise to give high boost without so much maintenance?
I heard that all of them used to burst the inpeller soon or latter,

Anyone here drove a VOLVO with EBERSPACHER turbocharger?

Edzio,

Had the KKK on the Volvos in the late 70s early 80s all had to be replaced

:imp:

Hallo to all, Myn father drove a Volvo L395 185HP (DIN) Turbo Eberspächer for a while, which you could drive for a 100,000km.
In those days the oil wasn’t as now,and lots used the wrong oils and so was distroying the turbo easy, and accelerating by pushing the accelerator if you stop the engine kills it too.Lots did that because it was good for a natural aspirated diesel engine,so lack of knowledge was a killer.
And nowedays all things have improved and now you can do over a 1.000.000km with it. But if it let you down it can cost you a lot,so better to prevent. An easy check is the way to go for after a while of 100,000 miles.

Cheers Eric,
