You havve to pay a lot for a fridge to get escorted through the tunnel with a man in a van with flashing orange lights,the width of a fridge is the same as the width of the side mirrors on the cab :grimacing: ,so why pay more for that,ok for ADR,i can accept that for the fire risk.

It’s because a major cause of the fire in the Blanc was fridges burning. And I mean the fridges themselves, the insulation burns quite well apparently. So a fridge is treated like ADR.

I understood it was because fridges are a touch too wide.
The Blanc, being an old tunnel, was dug to suit the old max’ width of 2.50m. Then the authorities allowed us to go 2.55m wide. Then the reefer boys complained that there wasn’t quite enough room inside a fridge to get 2 pallets in, due to the thickness of insulation. So fridges are 2.60m wide, which is over-width for The Blanc, therefore they have to be escorted. They don’t allow bulging curtains either.

Toby should have known about the ■■■■■■ requirement for the Blanc though. It’s been in force since The Blanc re-opened. This has all been mentioned on TruckNet often enough and the other trucking forums as well. That info is also freely available on the web site of The Blanc. And, Toby is an old hand at this game, so he should have know about the ■■■■■■ service from hearing about it in the years he’s been doing the job.

The limit for the Blanc is 2.55 wide and 4.70 high, anything above that you aint going through without an â– â– â– â– â– â–  vehicle
