Anyone been through this way recently ?. Was told recently that the french have hugely improved the road up to the tunnel in the last year or so. I went through about three years ago and the road on the spanish side wasn’t too bad but from Oleron up to the tunnel on the french side was a bit challenging, to say the least.
I used it last week, the roads on the French side are still very slow and winding, there were a few bits of new road, and some road works going on, but nothing substantive that would improve the route tbh. I was held up by a sheep herd for about 30 minutes on my way up towards the tunnel, once over the border it was an easy drive though and because of where I was going from and to, it was the quickest route available and the views are great if the weather is nice
The road is still difficult, but not the worse i have been on, Watch your speed through there as the local police sit at the end of the villages waiting for you to start picking your speed up, then out they pop with a friendly wave
