Tuffnels

Anyone work at Tuffnels, ‘The Big Green Parcel Machine’?
I was chatting to an Agency chap today and he said all Agency Drivers drive from A to B and when they get to ‘B’ the hand the Keys over to a Shunter and then they go for a break. The Shunter Parks and arranges the unloading and then gives the keys back to the Agency Driver.
He said it cuts down on Agency Reversing accidents and damage.

Is this right or is he extracting the urine?

TBH, sounds like a good idea but…

Probably correct, that was the system 30 years ago when I worked at United Carriers, in our case we only had a small yard so it was easier for the driver to drop his boxes and drawbar in the gate, pick up his new one while I put his trailer into place, he could then park on the outgate to have a break.

I did some agency for United too and they did that in the Birmingham depot. The bays were so close together there was no other way to do it.

Tuffnells use A frames I think so you can understand why they would do that!

Would that be Walsall Wood, that was a tight place

did it on agency a fair few years ago and used to change boxes at tuffnels depot at sheffield, used to drive into building then when you sorted out paperwork theyd change boxes, then on down to brielyhill and it a bit vague but i think i dropped box in corner of yard then went outside gate and picked one up,if i rember right the yard at briely hill was rammed on a night so bit of a pig reversing ,when you got back to your depot theyd tell you to leave it and theyd diesel up     ,then theyd sign your book up for 12 hrs[they were desperate] for 8 ish hours work.
good when it lasted but eventually i couldnt keep up working all day in a factory then driving all night, but money was nice when it lasted

Thanks for all the replies.
