I have only been driving class 2s for around a month , and man its a steep learning curve for me. its seems everyday i go out my head is bombarded with new challenges
Take last saturday for example ive finally learned my round in liverpool after a few misrable attempts and did it in good time however i took my break coming up to 6hrs duty time (30 mins) and i thought i would get back to the yard no problem before my 4.5 hr driving time ran out but no! i got stuck in wigan town centre with no where to stop and ran over by ten minutes now i have a infringment why i why didnt i take 45 instead of 30 aaaaarrrgggggggg!!!..
Feel like a right spanner sometimes!!!
One offs of a few minutes over are fine but should not be regular. It certainly is a learning curve as they only teach you how to pass a test on your practical training.
Try to plan a bit better and keep an eye on your driving time regularly when you are getting close to your limits. Then start to think where you can park for 45. Remember also that 45’s can be split into 15+30. This can sometimes work to your advantage if you are asked to wait for a bay to become free.
I know it’s easier said than done sometimes when you are learning the ropes but when you have been doing it 6 months, you will wonder what all the fuss was about.

It may not have made any difference to the driving time infringement, but you could have just had a 15 minute break for the 6 hour rule.
Having 30 minutes when you know that a 45 minute driving break is shortly due is just wasting time, and depending on the time of day you may not have got held up in Wigan
Having said that if you were likely to be running close to the 4.5 hours driving time it would have been wiser to make the 30 a 45.
Still you live and learn
Too right u live and learn and yes in 6 months i will be wondering what the fuss was about ,then i think i will get it half right , See ive been given a oportunity with a good company (albeit a part timer) with a good wage and sometimes flap a little too much. thanks for the kind words lads
Perhaps being the apprentice lad at 37 feels a little strange!

Hello Alex.
Yes the drivers hours rules coupled with WTD stuff is a steep learning curve! I am sure you will pick it up very soon though.
Where is your base? What kind of stuff do you deliver?
How did you find the job? Agency? Newspaper? Knocking on doors?
Its good to hear that you were able to get a start in the current economic climate. Good News is good news !!
Cheers,
LandyLad

Just to point out the 6 hour thing for the WTD is working time, not duty time. If you book any POA it means the 15 minute break will be later than 6 hours from the start of the shift.
Example.
06:00 Start work
Driving and other work
12:00 Minimum 15 minute break due for WTD
However
06:00 Start work
Driving and other work
09:30 Thirty minutes POA
Driving and other work
12:30 Minimum 15 minute break due for WTD
I hope this helps.
dont worry about it u learn from your mistakes
just do a printout and write on the back no suitable place to stop and where u were road details etc
after a while of lots of mistakes u will learn and not do it again

Hello mate
Iam based nr bolton delivering bulk parcels to couriers
I found the job on the internet although it is only part time
Hi Alex,
I am based in Bolton, but like I have said I am only getting agency work at the minute.
I have had nothing at all this month. The last work I had was my fun-days on the bins for Wigan New Year’s eve!
If there’s anything I can help you with, just do a post and I’ll try my best.
I dont have internet at home so I have to get on the forum when I am at mates’ houses or at a job where I can use their internet, so i dont get much chance to reply to PMs.
Cheers,
LandyLad
