Had a friendly chat with a driver of 24 tonne rigid, he said the he liked the unit I was driving, and although he has a class 1 and hazard licence he stays where he is because…
He earns £38k per year and £62 n/out money per night…
Not naming the company, but they move recycled battery’s, the only additional duty from driving is that they use a moffat , run out of Birmingham.
Personally I think that he was full of it, but maybe I am wrong? If I am wrong, then I need to change companies.
I was told once by a own account driver at Fords that they got £76 night out money.
He explained that they were not planned for nights out and the extra money was to make up for the morning shift they would miss the following day.
Your boastful acquaintance might be on a similar deal, essentially £25k pa (which is decent enough) and extrapolating his maximum earnings by assuming he does 4 nights out a week (which he probably doesn’t)
Now I admit, I could be wrong but after twenty years in transport I’ve yet to hear of a firm that gives extra money away for fun…
Could be true there are still a few cream usualy own account jobs about. As the other poster mentioned ford is a very good job but its not what you know but who you know or rectuited in house.
Someone i met at the last company i worked for whom now im friends with told be all these stories about how bent he use to run and dropping trailers across peoples yards on their nose etc and always thought most of it was bullzb, that was until i worked for the firm he use to be on for .
