Would you leave a night job Trunking, for a 5 or 6 day Tramping job? About £60 more for Trunking
It’s all about personal choice that one. Personally no and nowt to do with money.
Not keen on nights but even less keen on nights out, I would keep on trunking myself because I like being home everyday.

most definately yes, don’t work nights, and can’t stand commuting every bloody day to work, i like to go to work on a monday morning and come home fri or early sat morning, does me fine… nights are for sleeping not working
I would cause I hate working nights.
I know you’re home everyday, but it just ■■■■■ your weekend etc up
Plus I started having long blinks at the wheel, so I came off nights and now refuse to do them on safety grounds.
I had to do a week of nights back in December, and I stopped quite regular for fresh air / power nap / coffee etc because I don’t want to be dead and I was close when I was a permanent night worker.
All my friends work days, so even if I wasn’t sleeping in the truck, I still wouldn’t see them if I worked nights but I’d also probably not see much of them at weekends / days off
But, it’s all down to personal choice, when I got my truck licence, it was because I WANTED to be a night trunker, just my circumstances changed.
Horses for courses really. You need to like the lifestyle of tramping for it to be a go-er. I usually find when I’ve done tramping in the past that I can hack it for 3 months or so then it starts to get me down. It also depends what sort of tramping you are doing. I don’t mind parking up for 9 hours as this is enough time for a decent nights kip and then on with the job. I find parking up for 11+ hours if the job dictates this leaves me bored. Used to do 3 trips up Scotch from the midlands each week then 2 the next, it was pretty much trunking but with nights out & you’d take 9 hours off each night & I was OK with this.
Mind you I can’t physically do nights anyway.
Although money is a big part of the decision, hell £60 is a lot every week, being a night owl also comes into it. I’m not an early morning person and that’s what Tramping involves, so Nights Trunking

ya don’t have to get up so early when you are tramping, just role out of bed , quick wash, kettle on, and you are already at work, and if you are loosing 60 quid a week in wages you are making that up and more in expenses and not filling the car up on fuel for the commute to work every day
Tramping for me fella. I used to work for Morrisons on nights (first full time job) but have been tramping for the last 5 years. Like previous posters mention it’s all a matter of whars best for you.
Definitely tramping for me, but as has been said…Horses for Courses
Me and my other half have only the one car between us so she drops me off late sunday/early monday and uses it for work/ferrying kids around during the week then picks me up friday/early saturday.
No commuting/petrol every day saves fuel, all my kit in the truck without having to take it out (except for weekly washing), get up in morning and i am at work already, also don’t get on that well with missus and her kids so suits me
I did trunking (nights) for a while a couple of years ago and as it was a routine run i found myself nodding off at the wheel so kicked it into touch. I much prefer the variation of tramping, different places over 2 or 3 weeks.
As has been said previously…Nights are for sleeping…it aint natural for the human body.
But hey…each to their own
I like tramping £80 to £100 tax free and if your on tax credits it dont count towards your wages plus the fuel you save and you see alot more. Sometimes you might get the odd day at home but its not for everyone.
Tramping for me every time !
Only had one night out this week, so still been doing the hours e.g 3 x 15, 1 x 13, but getting up an hour earlier to start work and getting home half hour after finishing. No quality even tho’ i was at home, and i’m cream crackered.
Each to their own as has been said.
It would be different if it was just 12 hours trunking for some, but i’m a tramper thru an thru, always have been and suppose always will… !
Tramping on nights for nearly 4 years!! Done loads of Trunks for Tesco!! All while Trampin’!!
tramping for me cant do with the hassle off being home nag nag nag, but its like everyone said each to their own.
im on nights but would do anything to be on tramping
