Surely not a driver issue, but a company one. Why should a driver pay out of his own pocket to park somebody else’s truck securely?
Not so much to park someone’s truck safety but to have somewhere for a shower and hot food and drink. But yes, it should not be up to the driver to have to pay out of his/her own pocket

They wouldn’t be too tight to use them if there was a stripper on like in the olden days.

That includes me. I don’t night out and bring my own lunch so I have no need for them unless they accept my fuel card.

Clean hard standing, clean facilities (supervised and cleaned after every use)
Decent food, 24 hrs a day
Free parking if you buy a meal, small charge for using showers, clean towels available for a small charge.
Close to the motorways.
Have a look in Germany, and visit an “Autohof” that how it should be done.
Ban people for life, who think it’s alright to P against the wheels, who damage the facilities.
Plug inns for fridges.

Not far off the mark. Plenty of friendly females and drivers would be in the place til midnight, drinking tea and letching over the talent. They’d come from far and wide too.
A lot of valid comments. Totally agree that Germany is the best by far for Truckstops and dare I say that some of the new French ones are not to bad at all. If they can do it why can’t we do it . I’m a fairly new driver and hear stories of the old school Truckstops. Biggest problem I find and I know it’s not all but there eastern Europeans seem to not care about tidying up after themselves. Surely if the government were to offer some help the would make money out of it as well. People don’t seem to mind parking in a nice place for free with facilities and they will tend to buy food. Just bugs me when you spend 20 to 30 pound on parking and then have to shell out on expensive meals.
In all the 45 years I was driving,any payments for parking was claimed back on return to the depot
As for any other expenses ie showers etc, that came out of your night out money that`s what its for not for keeping in your pocket to subsidies your wages.
If your paying out of your own pocket to park up then you need to look for another job
Different if your owner operator,but then you keep receipts and claim back on tax

For some of them their wages are so crap the night out money is the only thing that brings it up to half decent.

a lot of companies pay a separate tax-free sum called meal allowance each day for those that tramp,Most companies if not all will not pay for parking if your empty.I will use truck stops for showers and food,never use the MSA’s in uk for food, and showers that are clean that work and have hot water are rare, I won’t pay to park out of my own money that ain’t my part of the ship
Not enough truck stops. Not much competition. High prices.
I love France or Germany, many years ahead of uk roads.
