Truckstops abroad

biggusdickusgb:
there is more than one BP in spain
zaragoza and bailen were open last time i went down
theres one near valencia i think but i’ve never been to that one

The BP at Bailen (its actually Guarroman) Km 286 off the A4 Madrid - Cadiz road is still there, a big fuel station one side, knocking shop next door, and parking the other side of the road. The reataurante is operated by the Autogrill chain. the showers are excellent too.

Also on the same industrial estate are Volvo and Scania workshops and a Schmitz Cargobull place has just opened up too.

Used it many a time, all your trucking & bodily needs in one place.

Only problem I have with it is they started to cater for the Spanish Intercity coaches and I come out of the showers ready for a bite to eat to find that 3 coaches have deposited a herd of hungry passengers at the bar.

So a quick 45 break gets extended to well over the hour, but what the hell.

Also new place lower down the street is OK.

Well as long as the coach passengers are only queuing for food eh?

Anyone remember BP Meer?

K.Adams:
Anyone remember BP Meer?

Meer is still open in its new guise of Q8 Joost, same as the shop / restaurant opposite on the Dutch border.

Some of the original staff are still there and apart from the shop being one way it has hardly changed. I lived in Meer for about 4 years

My old man lived in there 1990 - 1993 every week he was there. One weekend he flew home to sort his marriage out and my mother told the repo company where the lorry was and it got lifted. Bloody women

No queuing anymore, been told it’s shutdown.

Shame, showers were great.

Sigh
Typically the publisher went bust two weeks before publication, so no major launch.
However, the book is now available on Lulu (http://www.lulu.com/content/5725432) and hopefully shortly will be available on other online stores, and possibly real shops…
If anyone is interested, of course

Sorry to hear that Gary, also to see that you chose the same book cover for your paperback as I did for the hardback version of my book on Lulu, ‘Grandfather’s Clock and Other Tales’ :open_mouth:
Happily I chose a different cover design for the paperback version.

The first time I stopped at Bailen I was driving a Swiss wagon & drag fridge ( empty ) .It was its first day of opening,I think it was August. I stopped at midday for a meal & was going to siesta all afternoon & start again in the evening. I walked across the frying pan to the truckstop & was hit by the full blast of the air-con system when I entered the joint. Excellent meal ,plenty of wine & at the end of it the waiter came round with a free treble Carlos Primero & cigar to promote the opening of the truckstop .What with the air-con & that I ended up ratted & decided to sleep in the truck . I left the bar to get back to the truck & I was hit by the full blast of the afternoon heat ! I only got a few yards from the cafe & the head started to go round & all the strength was zapped out of my body . I managed to stagger back to the cafe where the air-con revived me . I tried to get to the truck a coupla more times then gave up & got stuck into the Cuba-Libras until it was dark .I got to the truck & slept until the next morning . I stayed away from that place until years later when I did the old Maroc run regular. They called the truck park the Frying Pan for a good reason.

I will awa’ and look for yours almost instantly.
It isn’t really that odd we have the same covers…it is a representation of what we have spent a good part of our lives staring at, when you think about it…we’re pre-programmed by this stage, like Pavlov’s dogs, to react to anything with car head and tail lights in it

Yes, although my book isn’t all about the road, a fair portion of it is and I thought that the most appropriate one to choose, however when I came later to do the the paperback version that design didn’t seem to be available so I spent some time deciding on another.
Although I thought it unlikely I did wonder because of that if they withdrew a design once allocated. Obviously not.
I see you have got an ISBN number. I haven’t tried to sell my book having done it only for myself really so haven’t bothered with the procedure. Was it easy?

Easy? Yes, fairly straightforward. And free, currently as well, if you use one of their ISBNs and go Published by Lulu Sadly it does boost the cost significantly to the point that I can only get the price down to £11.50 by not actually making an money at all and shrinking the print to get the page cound lower…
I’m just hoping A) people like it and B)they tell other people
