Trucks stuck in Saddleworth

Over the past 6 months I’ve witnessed 4 trucks being recovered from the ‘car park’ just off junction 22 of the M62 (by the large transmitter). Obviously (it seems) no-one is responsible for the surface maintenance here. It’s full of pot-holes, and has no boundary to indicate where the car park ends and the moorland begins.

Bit of a pointless post but it just doesn’t seem right that nothing is being done about it

think the last time i stopped there was around 18 months ago and it was bad then, hate to think what its like now.
only used it as an emergency because my time was running out.parked up around 5 pm and was the only one there. by 7pm the fog started rolling in, right pea souper and then i wished i had stopped somewhere else.

There’s very few nights when it isn’t foggy up there. Spooky place!
You would think the council would put some boudary markers in. Even if the car park isn’t their responsibility, the fact the road has to be closed both ways while the bogged down trucks are recovered should be their concern.

I love it up there, but I wouldn’t be daft enough to use it if I was heavy. That’s usually when people get stuck.

As for the boundary/condition, I’ve never been convinced it’s actually an official layby/pull in, to be honest. Just a bit of rough ground on the edge of the moors road. That would explain the lack of tarmac.

it could be that the land is owned by whoever owns the mast ?

I speak as one who was claimed by the aforementioned layby a year or so ago.I find the place priceless in terms of sleep quality but I just happened to be there when the worlds supply of tippers had decided to roost there as well, in the foulest of weather conditions. You need to be a bit nimble there especially in the dark and I managed to tuck myself in at the far side and during my first brew of the evening became starkly aware of a certain lack of symmetry between mine and the other trucks…yes folks up to my bottom lip in ■■■■ and the devil about to go water skiing…took almost three hours for them to extract me from the clag, including a cable snap from the wrecker to my stralis. And it looked perfectly safe but those puddles contain dark secrets.

It must be fairly soft going on bits of Saddleworth Moor

T’other side of the bridge Wheelnut, about half a mile up. Boggier still!

I was actually meaning other bits of the moor, somewhere off the road and out of sight :imp:

Ah. I think I’m with you.
