Trucking Down To Germany

Hey, thought id post some of the pics i took last week on my trip down to Germany. Had jobs to deliver in Amsterdam, Hamburg, Berlin & Frankfurt. Hope you enjoy. Some of the places we were at, i cant remember what they were called.

Monday: Home for the next 6 days.

Inside.

Driving Into Dover.

Dover.

In the lane, waiting.

Tuesday: Having to tranship into a van, as Amsterdam not suitable for the truck.

View from 1st job @ Clinets house.

Not great pic, just i took when we drove past in the van.

2nd delivery in Amsterdam, and just pic of the canal from the job.

Amsterdam.

Some tram.

Weird looking building, not great pic.

Services we stopped for some munch. Just into Germany i believe.

Parked up, sorting out the motorway tax thingy.

Wednesday: I just took this thinking a great name for a company.

Sign at where we stopped.

Coming into Hamburg.

Hamburg.

Nice houses where we had to deliver, not the best roads, as got tighter.

View from the 3rd job in Hamburg.

Some massive lake.

Across the road.

These Hitchikers had some great attire.

Driving to Berlin.

Big ol load at the services.

Few others.

Driving along.

and along more.

Berlin, truck stop for the night. Was good place, nice showers, decent food.

Some tower thing all lit up from the truckstop.

Thursday: Cold morning in Berlin.

Heading out of the truckstop, was told it used to be part of a raceway? My oldman told me bout it all.

Some sculpture at roundabout in Berlin, thought it looked good.

On route to Frankfurt, snow now.

Arrived in Frankfurt, but now having sort a van out, due to road much too small for the motor.

Frankfurt.

Friday: Another day of Transhipping.

Here comes the snow.

Love it or Leave it?

Getting more snow now.

3pm, finished now. Drive back to England.

Sign.

Loads of traffic trying to get out of Frankfurt, but weather is terrible now.

Ausfahrt.

Lovely snow.

More snow.

Blurry snow.

Bit chilly outside.

Grill up to sort out windscreen wash.

Saturday: Very cold morning in Belgium.

Truck needs a good wash now.

So does the trailer.

I dunno, Sinbus?

The Traffic heading to Calais.

Massive que.

Some motor spun out on slip road.

Wrecker assisting.

Change of plan, head to Dunkerque as 8hour delays at Calais, 4hours to the booth @ Trains. Quicker @ Dunkerque, so we hear.

Arrived at the port

Everyone has got the same idea now.

Waiting to go through.

Guess people bored.

Only bomb ive seen like that is in a Cartoon.

Driving onto the boat.

Quick snap.

Massive line of trucks trying to get into Dover.

Nice trailer lit up.

More trucks waiting. had to be over 15mile, double lane, stacked.

Dartford crossing.

Flying through the tunnel.

Back to the yard, all finished. Just needs a good wash and back out Monday!

Great pictures but I bet that trailer is a pain in the arse with the single axle at the back

interesting article on wiki - never knew that and I’ve driven on it many times

Good diary, thanks.

I think the strange attire may be worn by Wandervogels, a type of scout or youth movement. I went to find myself in 2000 millennium year on a sailing ship, and we were joined by a couple of these characters. They travel around the world for a year any way they can, sort of a gap year but they work to earn food.

If it isn’t Wandervogel. Brit Pete or Diesel Dave will help me out!

Great diary & photos - interesting trip!

hitchhiker - strange clothes, yeah saw twice in Germany - at motorway service station

Great pics & diary,
think those hitchhikers may be german chimney sweeps, if not they’re wearing similar clothes

just noticed the cactros has a side locker so why have the gloves in the cab

:sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Let me have 2 remarks:
1.The Volvo Truck is frim Fluckinger in Austria. They make very much transports fpr Volvo BM (wheel loader etc), so they have a fleet of Volvo trucks:

2.To the - you named- wandervogel:

shortly explained: these are young carpenters. Before they could upgrade to a master carpenter, they have to go on the road (in german Auf die Walz), to get experience for their job. They start with only lttle money and baggage and have to earn all what they need by the work they do. Normally this takes on year, depending on the region they come from. They are not allowed to go more than ca. 30 km to their hometome during this year.

Thanks Franz, a wonderful explanation and it explains how these two characters appeared on our schooner and sailed for free
