Yes Harry.I knew Micky Cairns aka Micky Olio.Did you know how he got that name. When he fitst started doing Italy, he knew not a word of Italian so he just added O to the end of every English word eg sandwicho.Very good linguist in the end. Both French and Italien. His English was pretty rubbish.Last I heard he was running a French restuarant inFordingbridge.
heres mine: dunno who the fella is. Reckon he’s chuffed that he’s got a V8?

That is Campbell Bodels from Bunclody,Co.Wexford (but originally from Larne area I think) who sadly died following a short illness in April.I remember him when I was only a young fella starting out and he was always helpful and friendly and one of the fastest men Ive ever seen drive trucks(back in the day when you were told to be there and back very quick)He liked his wine and country music as far as I can remember, one of the good old stock
routier:
Im Irish descent, born in Liverpool ,all my family are from Ireland now
hoping to move back there in 2/3 years !!!
JJ Ohara from Transfreeze now he takes me back now, do you ever remember a bar near the docks in Dublin called Kellys Bar ? Cant remember where it was exactly but was a popular haunt with my dad during his days in the 70s/early 80s.
There was another company n now called Steerside who my uncle used to work for in Dublin, dont know if you remember them… All black trucks / fridges…
hello routier.
kelly bar was on the south dock, its all expensive apartments in that area now,i think kelly is still a pub abeit a winebar.
i remember mr kelly himself,he was a cranky cantankerous bast***.
if you parked a truck outside the pub and he didnt like the color or make,he would nag you to shift it.
he would be well dead now.
steerside.i worked for them myself as an owner driver.
alan black was the director.
i went into him one day to get paid.
he told me foleys[liverpool owners]had pulled the plug, could i give him all due CMRS.
he thought he was dealing with someone who would obey.
i know the value of CMRS
i kept them and went straight to the meat company i had done the loads for.i got paid direct off the CMRS.
steerside still owed me 4 or 5 thousand, this was 1980.
blackie never spoke to me again.
i did say some choice things to him.he died a few years ago from cancer.i think he was still living the luxury life in a big house in dalkey.
i am open to correction on when he died.
who was your father routier.

Very sorry to hear this news. Sounds like he was a great guy.
Ive got some more photos of the truck. ill dig um out later and post them here.
I remember Wilsons of Boroughbridge very well. a good friend worked for them and was doing Portakabin into France and Swiss. Most nights they were parked up with a few other drivers on cabins.
In the morning all the trucks would have steamed up windows, except Keiths, his truck was normally frozen up in winter. Keith was tucked up in a nice warm bed with the daughter of the local Portacabin agent. As far as I know they are still together living in Switzerland.
The Brinor and Yogi thing has been posted before, wasnt it the German owner who was called Behr. so Yogi 1, 2 , 3 etc was just a play on words.
Do you remember the Bogg group who ran several companies and had shares in others. Slater Transport, Link Transport, Alan Carter, they ran mainly F86 and ran from Hull, Pickering and Whitby. I know Alan Carter is still around but only with a couple of Daf XF on Spain or Portugal
That light soil you see on Mike Pollard’s motor was picked up in France on that national road from Rheims ,White-house direction. It must have been the sugar-beet season.
rotahaul were in alfred manchesters yard ash just outside blackwall tunnell by vic deep remember they had a nice crusader sleeper to just along from them were cwp aka frieghtbus danny johnson had that drawbar after them was a nice motor
I just want to say THANKS to all who posted pics on here, my own experience of European work was a few trips to France, Germany and Belgium. I left the UK in 1974 (or maybe it was 1975 ) and them Scanias, Volvos, Mercs and Magirus-Deutz (i know i spelt that one wrong) were becomeing very popular so it’s nice to see pics of the trucks i missed.
The firm i worked for was just a small refrigerated hauler in Wetherby, Yorks. not one of the big ones that have been mentioned, anyway, THANKS again,

I think Magirus Deutz is spelt correctly, who was the “small refrigerated haulier in Wetherby”? Its a nostalgia thread so company names can stir the memory.
By the way with a user name of Remy, should not your name be Martin?
