Diesel Dave:
lemonmouth, My gut feeling is that you might well be right, but if we wait for Spardo I’ll bet we’ll learn something
If you mean the (alleged) Berliet I’m almost certain that Lemonmouth is right, but he beat me to it, so I said nowt.
well dun LEMONMOUTH! see, you are the worlds no 1 expert on trucks
RUNABOUT28: heres a pic i took in Dover. whats your connection?
DIESELDAVE: think you wanted Chivers pics? Got this 1, think i got better pic of it somewhere. also got pic of red and white 141 with Chivers fridge on, have to dig that out 2. take it they were owner drvrs? did you work on there mate?
and now a request from me: Looking for any info on these 2 “beauties”. Anyone know anything? Dont think they were Peter Harding’s: not his style. Wonder if they were on for Davies Turner?

If you find out who did that to those trucks they should be dragged on here screaming and publicly flogged and then shot
a few more oldies for your bank hol viewing pleasure
its always nice when a driver gives you a friendly wave!
Wonder how much the design guy got paid for this “STUNNING” colour combination Pink Red Black and Blue, umm nice. See nowadays they are all white with a bit of “powdery pink”.
heres 1 for all you northern lads. Anyone remember Eric Hunwick, think he came from M’chester area. Used to see the trucks in France and someone told me they did M/East with F88’s?
talkin of M/E, Rennie Hogg had a go.
and for you Kent boys, nice wagon and drag from Inter City Trucks.
Im amazed at all these photos, did you ever do any work ash? or did you have a long clearance in Dover.
Keep em coming. Its definately got my vote for thread of the year

Probably a load of wine on the last Friday in the month, that ought to have kept him there 'til at least Tuesday.

No truckerash, I never worked for Chivers. I do remember that they were often at the same loading addresses in the Cesena area when we did the peaches job through the summers. Now and again, we’d arrive “a bit late” for loading on a Friday, so there’d be an arsecovering phone call to the boss “complaining” about being weekended again. That would be swiftly followed by a chorus of landing leg winding, followed by an orderly procession of bobtail tractor units heading for the beach at Rimini.
Sometimes there were more Brit wagons in Rimini than could be found in Watford Gap!!

Cor blimey, I have to agree with Wheel Nut, who’d do that to an alredy adequate 141 cab?? IMHO, that’s an atrocity. I can’t honestly say that I ever saw the 141(I’d remember, if I had
)
I’d say that, having driven several F88s, that the loft conversion isn’t as silly as it looks, because the F88 cab was far too small. I’m almost certain that I remember seeing that F88 several times in Italy. IIRC, at Jackie Maeders in Milan.
BTW, who remembers all the CMR claims when you’d loaded at JM’s?? .
The F88 looks like a 240 with the grille from a 290 to me Now for a surprise. I’m fairly sure I saw that very F88, still in the same colours, heading towards Chester on the M56 within the last year. I’ve also got to agree with those who think that the colours on the 141 and the F88 are Davies Turner. I used to do groupage to Austria (Linz, Graz and Vienna) for DT’s.
Nostalgic moment: I did my first ever Italian trip in a 240 F88.
BuzzardBoy, I’d say the tastefully coloured F12s look like RH Stevens’ too.
Now we’re looking at “customised” stuff, who remembers Mr Humphries’ nicely turned out fleet??

well actually, i kinda like the extra space. reckon they were made of plywood though!
what about this one then WheelNut?
I know its not a UK reg truck, but thought it worthy of being here to accompany the Volvo and Scania earlier.
Maybe i should start yet another topic showing European companies
This one had a shower in it. Nice flowery curtains…not
[/quote]
Is this RH Steven’s from Macclesfield??
yes mate, def Stevens from Macclesfield
I can understand the green Scania being extended backwards like an early longline. But that shoebox on the roof is just sick
The flower pot builder should be also shot for poor taste

I would agree with that Dave but its a later one because it has electric wipers and not the silly vacuum ones nicked from a Ford pop

sorry i cant please everyone
heres a Lagan pic, but you still cant see the Volvo properly, have to keep looking for a better pic…
and while were on the other side of the Irish Channel, i said a while ago i’d put up some Irish pics, so heres a few classics to get ya goin.
lets start with a “classic” Irish truck!
not sure why Persitt bought top o the range Volvo’s and then threw in a Slack Atki? maybe tryin to slow the drivers down a bit?..
CLASS PHOTO if i say so myself
this is how i remember the Irish boys. Joe Ryder’s ex Dutch 141 opened up to 400hp! followed it out Watford Gap services M1 south. He was loaded with 15 tons hanging beef AND 10 ton sheet steel on the floor ! Got up to 80mph, gave up the chase…
a more sedate DAF, although it sounded terrific with straight through exhaust
couple of trusty Trannys
and a few more classics to end

PMSL
Wheel Nut, The first F88 240 I drove had the vacuum wipers.
The curtains in that truck remind me of a stunt we pulled on one of the guys. The truck in question was the then new/facelifted cab as fitted to an M.A.N. of “Y” ('80s) plate vintage. Anyway, the curtains for that cab had to be stowed in cubbys above the windscreen. One of the wags made up a “special” set of curtains and her man fitted them to the victim’s cab. When we’d used our hours, the curtains came into play. When the “victim” dropped his curtains for the night, I bet he wished he’d got the flowery ones, because his were…PADDINGTON BEAR
some more classics there ASH, Terry Trans I remember seeing each week at Liverpool Abbatoir parked up, this was when I was a lad doin my newspaper round at 5 in the mornin before school. Used to have a smart fleet of scanias
Also spotted another classic, a Scania from Halal meat packers there, dad used to load at the abbatoir in Ballyhaunis there.
Some great pics of TC and a vintage McBurney, still going today as we all know, as well as Carna, probably the only 2 out of all the Irish pics posted!
