beresfords of stoke and browns of leighton buzzard think they had american trucks at the time.A bloke i used to work with a guy called Bob Day used to be on for Brown’s, rates it as the best job he ever had.
here you go BuzzardBoy: dug out this crap quality pic of H G Brown Macks. they also ran F89’s and Transcons to M/E.
you being from LB you’d know Peter Roff then? JLS shared his yard but strangly i cant photos of thier kit. have to look harder…heres one of PR’s finest, closely followed by one of his Volvos. note the headboard. He hated that!!! It HAD to have his name in it. i guess this must have been its first trip before he had time to get the headboard written properly.
Some may disagree, but PR’s a good bloke! He’s still around and into property nowadays. He still uses the old office and his old transport sign is still there.
Oh yes, i know Peter, knew his neice, Ruth for a while too, He is a bit of a Trucking legend isnt he, there aren’t many people round this neck of the woods who dont know him.
JLS were always 2nd best to PR though, their kit was always one step behind the ultra smart Scania’s and Volvo’s. When my old man worked for JLS he got a 340 Turboliner Renault, what did PR do next, bought F16’s! I have said in a previous thread on here, Peter Roff was one of the reason’s i started driving Truck’s, seeing his kit rolling out of Leighton Buzzard on a Sunday afternoon was a sight to behold, but woe betide anyone who turned left out of the yard and left black lines in the road, you had to go down to the roundabout, turn round and come back up.
As for the office and the sign, i was told that when they eventually knock 35A Stanbridge Road down, and build houses/flats on it, either the sign has to stay, or there has to be some recognition of him somewhere, be it in a road name or whatever.
As for that 2nd Volvo, i dont think it is one of PR’s if you look closely, looks a bit too tatty. Cold it be a subby pulling one of his Ferryline/Panalpina Trailer’s??
TruckerAsh,
Just a thought, any of ECE or Siddy Edwards??

thought it was about trucking in the 80s
Greetings Truckerash old buddy,
Have you by any chance got any snaps of the rather obscure outfit known as ‘DREW INTERNATIONAL’ he was based near Langford Beds and used to go out to the southern Ireland 20, The last I heard of them was way back in the 80’s when one of their Trucks caught fire, I beleive it was an Electrical fault ! they used to run Volvo’s in a White and Red livery, The guvnor was a stickler for keeping his boots clean - used Dubbin!
10 - 10 till we do it again!
Well it looks like im stumped again
First SPARDO does it with Cheveralls and C H Howse ( although im still searching for that so havnt given up just yet…), then LEMONMOUTH comes on board with DrewInternationanl
I do recall seeing this one from time to time Lemonmouth as i used to visit the local hauliers in the area for photos. It was always parked up against a fence with curtains closed so couldnt ever get decent pic. Obviously didnt have much work. Think the old boy used to run a “odd job” business too. Nevertheless, ill keep looking for a pic. you never know…
kerbut:
CarlNice to see the photos of Alan Taylors trucks. I think he used to have a Mack also. I used to know Alan fairly well as we both did traction for GBE and he bought my Globetrotter from me ( HNH 350 Y ) when I bought a Pegasso Troner which was in GBE,s colours, any photos of my old Globetrotter ? ,I did see it about 7 years ago going around Rennes painted orange.
Kerbut: taken a while, but i dug out pic of HNH 350Y
and this wouldnt be your PigsArse Troner would it? H180 KFA.
shouldnt really post it here cuz this 80’s stuff
TruckerAsh,
How about S&J Pierce from Leighton Buzzard??
Thats the one Ash,thats what it looked like when I bought it, I changed the colour to blue and silver and it was lettered up SeaRoad,Barcelona and Madrid (GBE ,s agents in Spain )
The Pegasso Troner in your picture is a Litchfield one, mine was a Poole one G850XBE.

tryin to keep this particular topic to the 80’s. were Pierce’s going back then? cant remember seein um…
im getting a bit fed up with all these truck photos!!!
that’ll be the day !
so i thought id put a few more “arty” ones in, just to break it up a bit and to show those of you who wernt “lucky enough” to do the job in the “good ole days”, one of the best routes in Europe!
“Turn left at Macon” and you’re on the way to the Blanc…
it must be my age but i cant for the life of me, remember the right order for this set of photos, so id appreciate some help
i think it goes like this:
on the way to Italy through Courmayer towards Blanc…
Stilts at Clueses…
getting near the tunnel
coming home from Italy towards Blanc (Italian side)
away from the beautiful scenery of the Alps, who remembers the “HURRICANE” of 1987■■?
on the worst day when Michael Fish said “it wont be bad, it’ll pass by, don’t worry”, I caught a mid day ferry from Zebrugge.
I was parked in Dover waiting for Customs clearance which as usual dragged on into the night.
Late that same day the winds picked right up and the ferries started struggling to get into the port!
I managed to stand on a jetty and got these photos as a tug tried to tow the Sealink boat into the docking area. As you can see, the boat is sideways on!
In fact, the rear of the boat was only inches away from the dock wall as the tug went full pelt to pull it away!
The water doesnt look that bad, but beleive me it was. The tug had to then steer itself around the far side of the boat and pull it round so it could reverse in.
The whole saga took over an hour to get the boat in.
That night we all thought our trucks were going to blow over!
At first light i got a quick photo of the linkspan:
and as I left Dover, got this pic at the top of Jubilee Way.
Absolutely cracking thread. I went away for 5 days and came back to 3 new pages.
I hope mr’s Truckerash understands that if he is late for dinner and doesnt talk to her anymore its because of Trucknet and not infidelity
How about any tanker outfits? Harold Wood and Tankfreight from Cleckheaton were still running Europe in those days.
Wakes of Hull, later Mainstream motors running 111 Scania and an offshoot Nigeria Freight with F88
Unfortunaly this Picture has had to be removed after a request by the copyright holder
I thought I had dreamt it
