TRUCKIN IN THE 80's (International)

Leggetts was another regular i used to see. Was amusing to see the Volvo F12’s and f89’s “waiting” for the SLACK ATKI’s to catch up!
dont know where this was taken, reckon it was somewhere in Swiss.
Anyone have a clue?
Muttenz .
And the geezer in the check shirt & long hair was a Brummie that used to work for 'em.

Great pics Ash and what a great topic. No other way to say it.

Now what have Ash’s pics done for my memory??
Promotor was as I remembered.
The Hercock’s wagon was parked in Asia Shop’s ■■■■■■■■■■■■.
(Remember how there always seemed to be an Asia Shop wag and drag with the rainbow coloured tilt in that spot??)
IIRC we used to buy “Blanc” tickets from one of the Dover agents, double-barrelled name, but I’m not sure whether it was Ferry Frightening, I remember 'em anyway.

I used to see Swains (and Caddy’s) a lot in Serge’s Shell garage at Pont d’ Ain.
IIRC Martintrux were from Chadwell in Essex.

Leggett’s seemed to be everywhere- couldn’t miss 'em. I saw them a lot in Como customs.
(Near a certain errr… Saturday cash-for-cabotage specialist   )

David Croome went over to wag and drags later on. Weren’t they from Sheerness or thereabouts?? My mates Eddie “the rabbit” and Roger Faill went on for them. You ex-ME guys might remember Roger (Faill freight from Blackpool, he had a Bedford TM) He could strip and build an engine without breaking sweat or getting his hands dirty.

Some of the best camion stew was served in a dropped swap-body in Gebruder Weiss’ yard in Vienna, preceded by the obligatory commy block V. EEC football match, all done whilst the wags did the cooking. (The wags had a choice and always chose cooking rather than playing football. )

Another few names spring to mind- Hicks and M.A.T. (South Wales) and Hangartner’s and Kessler. (Swiss)
M&B (Northampton) Starring Polish Joe, who spoke about six languages really well.
Ron-azur (French fridges.) AKA mysteron transport

Yes Ash, I think you should write a book. I’m sure you’d get no end of help from the guys on here.
I see you’re in Milton Keynes. Is Harry Mason still about??

Tony Kessler had a bit of bad luck. For years he did well as a O/D running Swiss / Manchester on a really good Chemical contract. He used to clear at Manchester Container Base. His brother in law worked in the office for Ciba Geigy Ag ,I think & gave him all the work. His son became of age & so he came off the road & expanded the fleet. It happened all within a matter of weeks. He attended a wedding in Swiss & at the reception his brother stood up to make a speech. He announced he was dying of Aids & hadn’t got long to live.He died shortly after wards. At the same time Tony’s firm went bust & Tony suffered a massive mental breakdown. He was found walking along the autobahn out of Basel with his passport in his hand & plane ticket in his pocket. He told the police he was going to Milan, totally out of his head. Sad really, until he got ambition he was a rock solid bloke
And that geezer Racine , Aisa Shop , used to run around as a double for Rasputin. He sold his old bangers ,got subbies & lived happily ever after.

Geat pic`s again truckerash

Any in your collection Ash from Cadwallader Oswestry & Dee Valley Llangollen

Cheers

Wow, I go away for a couple of days in the hills and when I come back there’s a 3 page thread which seems to have developed into a ‘who’s going to stump Ash for a pic’ contest. :unamused:
Lot’s of good memories there, for me included, but here’s my contribution to the contest. Any pictures of Cheverall’s of Luton Ash? Your neck of the woods mate, Ian only had 6 motors, all MANs, but it was a nice little outfit to work for, while it lasted.

truckerash:
nice to read all the chat lads. bringin back a few good memories for me.
time to put a few more pics on then:
heres one for you Ian, Promotor F12 with a South African driver, if I remember correctly, his name was George.

Heres the Hercock roadtrain “Roman” in his F12

and how many of you knew Hercocks did a bit of heavy haulage?

this is how Hercocks ended up for those who didnt recognise the Derby and White name

Evenin all: i used to look forward to coming home of an evening. After a hard days work (honestly), i’d walk in and the missus would make a nice mug a steamin T. Then id have a shower and when i came down my dinner would be ready. Ah bless, what a great gal!
Thats all changed now… Still hav the shower, but drink and dinner seems to flow all in one now, and then for the rest of the evening im on here, reading all your comments and then spending most of the evening looking for photos of the companies you lot are on about! and if ive got time, posting a few up before the 10.30 kerfew.
I have to admit though that tonight i am stumped!
