Fantastic pics especially Ian Mckellars 141,s’ remember them motors well.Big Arthur had DHJ 123T when i first started there in 86, the 141s had all gone by the time i got me class 1 in 89 so had to do with a 142, shame!

I remember running to Italy on one of my first Euro trips and being told that McKellars lads will look after you if you can keep up and if the weather is bad follow them. They always keep the Frejus open for the McKellar royal mail truck

truckerash:

pma21:

hello PMA21 - who was/is your dad? neil used to do a bit of work for me years ago - not the hardest grafter ever, but his drivers made up for it! do you know/remember the tale of two of his colliding in italy when not even running together?

the YOGI trailer numbers on Brinor refer to the owner’s surname, a native German called Manfred Behr (bear, geddit?)

If you are talking about the Swiss Flyer - he lost that motor when his wife divorced him. Presumably that’s would be the blonde one in the snap.

Hullo Harry,
I often wondered what had happened to Mick Mortimer. He always used to park up on the first layby just outside York, on the A64, by what is now a Cafe, The Highwayman. I remember him doing Swiss for Anchor, with another bloke I knew at the time, John Overton. I wonder what they’re all doing now.
Cheers, Archie.

Yeah, it was not only an attractive truck -in Swiss Mick was mobbed by the ladies. His wife found out & took him to the cleaners. Good bloke was Mick but a lot of drivers from oop north were v.envious of him. He was always getting sarcy comments from the Dempsey crowd. One phone call can change your life.
He gave me a jump start once out in Swiss with that Scania. He was terrified that the leads were the right way & not blow a hole in the side of his batteries.

mmm, away , anyone one got any photies of currie european ,jj currie dumfries, both good firms back in the day, sorry to say not so good nowadays! :unamused: :frowning:

I was subbing for Brinor in the late 1980s, what a great job that was. We used to tip and then get a list of wine farms to load at. You made your own route up and were left to get on with it. I had more bottles of wine given… I remember coming home one Christmas eve and as luck would have it I’d been loading in the Epernay champagne region and generous as the wine farmers often were I’d been given a case at almost every pickup. I had to declare it at Dover I had so much but when they raised an eyebrow I said look at the T forms I’ve been loading at wine farms. They stamped the old pick ticket and said sod off lol

Its taken me 25 years to find out what the YOGI was all about though
