TRUCKIN IN THE 80's (International)

Hi Gaz

to clarify I spent a hole day in turkey repairing a whittle truck and helped out with new spares I used to carry I didnt ask the driver for payment but wanted my parts back i agreed to invoice Whittles on return
the driver who I will not mention as it was not his fault signed a invoice I made out with his name and truck Number I was happy he was greatful we both carried on together he was going to Baghdad I was going to Doha.On my return I sent Whittle the invoice 5 days later I had a phone call to say that it was the resposability of the driver to give me the money back as he had not had permission to repair the truck what
Wa—rs :imp: :imp: :imp: how did they expect the driver to contact them in the middle of nowhere ,after that I kept my spares to myself other than Astran Drivers or close freinds I could trust I say no more

Hullo Roger,
Youre quite right, sometimes you can get a right kick in the nuts, just because youve got the sort of nature that thinks everybody else is like yourself. This has happened to me a few times in the past. I dont applaud the attitude taken by Whittles at all. I agree that it was the responsibility of the driver concerned, as we were all Owner drivers on there. But I am sure that they will have spoken to the driver about it and even passed on your invoice. The driver himself knew all this Im sure when he was accepting your help at the time, and still accepted your help both in time and parts supplied. It seems to me that hè`s the bad guy in this tale. Just one of the few we all meet, a right ■■■■■
Cheers, Archie.

p.s. Come on show us the photo`s now, you old bugger.

An average Whittle stunt, I am sure! A local haulier agreed to shunt some trailers back to Central Trailers at Haydock for them (Whittle owned naff all - even the office block was leased!) and then never got paid because Whittle refused to pay without an “official” purchase order being produced.

The man was in denial right till the last day, I reckon. Interesting to watch some of the reposession merchants in the yard some days

Oooops

Sorry about that roger, didnt mean to bring back some bad memories for you mate, i know you do get a few ba***rds in road haulage, which makes it worse for those who are good blokes.

cheers

Hi Archie

Dont remember you pulling for Whittles :unamused: :unamused: there is lot that splips past the brain cells   the driver involved I never saw again maybe he drove for someone who had more than one truck do you know of this    as for the pics they shall remain with the rest of the unwanted I will not post pics of whittles only if u have names of ODs and the trucks they drove, boosting the name of a company that treated me the way they did sorry forget it, at least at Astran if you helped you Knew you would be rewarded on return. The only other driver I helped was a Promotor driver his name is lost at the Moment he was stuck 40 km from the National in belgrade with a wheel bearing blown on his trailer ,it was minus 15c and we worked for 2 days filling the axle shaft to put on the bearings that I carried ,I sent them an invoice saying Repaired in the Freezing cold of Yugo ,and received a cheque saying written in a heated office in Tumbridge Wells .I didnt ask for my time but they included an extra £300 on the invoice with many thanks

Europleb… back in 85/86,on reaching St Omer I was approched by a driver who was abit short on cash for the toll, said he needed a tenner, anyway i lent him a tenner, but he could hardly speak to me on the boat, I thought well probably the last i’ll see of it, after we docked and with this playing on my mind, I found his truck and asked for abit of insurance for getting my cash back, so I took his pink card, fair enough his boss came down next morning, a Saturday gave me the tenner all was well, well this guy drove for Star Trucking but I can’t remember there being any logo on his truck, like in your pics, in fact I can’t remember seeing that logo anywhere, I must be getting to old.

great pics europleb, you got anymore
