Noticed this before the Reg on the F88 is from Stoke and Comart’s had the previous 2 Regs, Do you know if it was always a double drive, or was it converted ■■ and who owned it 1st ■■
Sorry for taking so long to get back. spoke to Pat this morning, Yes this was an Ex Comart Vehicle Pat converted it to three axles, original wheels were trilex.
Five of them were imported from Belguim and registered in UK in 1975 original year was 1972.

Dave,
Thanks for that, I thought it was, I think there is a photo somehwere when it was a Gaydon a couple of years ago, nice to see an ex Comart still going, no doubt most of them are well gone.
Would have loved to get hold of my Dads old F89 SVT 953 N and restore it, I think it had done well over a milliion K’s when he had to give it up for an F10 - broke his heart to give it up.
Does anybody remember seeing this Volvo in the early 80’s driving around ?.
I saw it on quite a few occasions, going up the M2 from Dover, once going through Belgium, once going through France and where I took this photo which was at the customs in Aosta, Italy.
My biggest surprise and the last time that I ever saw it, was at the Turkish/ Iraqi border at Zacho on the 31st December 1983.
Hopefully, somebody who knows a bit about Formula 1 racing is reading this and will know if there were any Middle East racing circuits in the early 80’s. If there were I should of thought that they would have flown the cars and spares out there or had this truck been sold to an owner driver doing continental work.
I put this photo on the Where Am I page about a year ago and I think either Wheel Nut, K.W, or Brit Pete knew some thing about it so I hope that they can refresh my memory.
Regards Steve.
1983, that’s about the time there was a GP held in Dubai, it was in the car park of a hotel, I’m certain it was the Dubai International cos my sister was working there at the time and met many of the drivers.

Mushrooman,
Remember seeing it about a lot when I used to go with my Dad, looked the dogs ********, was on the boat with the team when they were going to Zolder (I think) made my day as a kid, thought I was the bees knees cause I knew the team drivers for JPS, if I remember right wasn’t Jac Villenerve racing for JPS about that time ■■
Hi BigR250,
Jaques Villeneuve, yes your quite right, a very young lad. And his dad Giles died, crashing his Farrari at Zolder in 1982. Actually JPS withdrew from sponsoring formula 1 in 1986. They had for the past ten years supported Colin Chapmans Lotus Team, managed at that time by Peter Warr. The two most prominent and I believe last two being de Angelis and Nigel Mansell, and of course later that year the late great Ayrton Senna. This is just a bit of useless information really, it`s got sod all to do with our trucking memoirs, but never mind eh?
Archie.
Hullo Dieseldog6,
Is it old age or what ? I`ve just read your last posting. And guese what, I said exactly the same in the posting before you. Perhaps you never managed to read it,. Never mind eh ?
mushroomman, there were some small race circuits in the middle east even as far back as the 80’s but only for the lesser formulas such as F3 and formula ford, definately nothing approaching the stringent requirements of F1. I can only assume that the vehicle was sold to a lower formula private team who decided to keep it in the same livery because it looked so good. I used to be on the Arrows test team and have seen my old FH12 and a couple of the daf super space cabs running about pulling trailers still in the same colours with Arrows on the doors, and I also saw one of our old T team trailers now owned by I think a historic F1 racing team still in the original livery including all the sponsers as well. I could post some pics of some of the different teams race transporters I have driven over the years but its hardly truckin in the 80’s is it

Hullo Charlie,
I remember a smart young guy with a it of a beard driving for the Mansell / Madgewick Team. Last time I saw him in that was approaching Dartford Tunnel. Do you remember him ? , If you do happen to see him. He still owes me a beer from Glyfadha.
Hi Chazzer, thanks for the info , if your photo’s are not from the 80’s then why not put them on the Transport Photo Forum, I am sure that somebody would be very interested to see them. If they are from the 80’s then stick them on here, you never know what feedback you might get .
You mentioned Formula 3 and I seem to think that on another thread you mentioned InterRoute ?
Do you know if InterRoute went to Turkey in 1980 and do you know if they had an ex Formula 3 driver called Mick who drove for them. I am not sure if Mick worked for InterRoute or Euro Route does this ring any bells for anybody ?.
B.T.W. Chazzer, you mentioned The Arrows Team , did you know that Mick Shirley used to service The Red Arrows Aerobatic Team vehicles in the early 70’s .
Regards Steve.

I have mentioned this before, but I find it quite amazing that companies with presumably a reputation to keep would allow trucks/trailers in their logos to swan around the world for any tom ■■■■ or harry to slag off if they transgress.
When I worked for Courtaulds, and for their successors Toray, it was an implacable rule that all traces must be removed before a vehicle moved out of the company’s control.
I certainly wouldn’t allow my name to be blackened by some unscrupulous transporter/driver.
