Truckers Social Life

buck rogers:
intresting thought this swraith.
having found myself single now,my life consists of working away all week, one full weekend with my kids(which i love),and the second weekend,a weekend off for me time.
ive found myself constantly on the go,cant just sit and chill, because there is so much to be done.
my main worry is in the future finding a decent enough girl who will take my job etc into account in a relationship.is a weekend relationship good enough,i dont think so when meeting someone new.sad times. :frowning:

Well Buck, I would assume that any woman you meet will have kids of her own, she’ll have plenty to keep her occupied during the week, so weekends will be your main social time together, I doubt that the job will be a problem in that case, for the younger lads it may be a bit different though

don’t think anyone would want to play with me

would you like to re-phrase that?

what about leisure interests? there are loads of groups set up for just about anything. at least you are there for a specific reason and so will have something to chat about eg Roger Hodgson is in concert in glasgow in may. i have never been to a concert before but according to those on his official facebook page, he is amazing and really connects with his fans

Look at you now Sam, you have got Scatty Scanny all of a dother :stuck_out_tongue:

I was in the Army and made lots of mates but through postings etc we mostly ended up loosing touch with each other, but thanks to facebook I have managed to trace some good mates I would never have heard from again

i did that too. including a guy i lost touch with about 10 years who was one of my best mates until he went on tour from germany
its also a good way of showing our support for the troops who are serving now

Same here. There’s old muckers on FB that I haven’t seen in absolute donkeys years. Even bumped into the evil ■■■■■■ of a training Cpl from basic!

i go home after every shift but due to the hours im not even looking. i work, sleep and try to find time to play a few games. theres no point in me trying to find a gf when i cant commit the time

Buck up Buck, there are many girls who have pretty full-on lives of their own and positively enjoy having their own space just as much as you enjoy having yours.

In fact I am sure many of us know of a driver who has come off of the road to spend more time at home, only to end up getting divorced six months later because both partners were spending too much time under each others’ feet. My current girlf is someone I was with many years ago when I was Euro-tramping and only spending a day or so together every week, and even though I’m not working now we still choose only to spend a day or two together every week because that’s the type of people we both still are. And every time we meet up, it is pure pleasure because it is keenly anticipated.

I have only ever had one relationship where it has caused trouble, but that was because she was a bunny-boiling nut-nut who was convinced I was living with another woman during the week and not driving a truck at all… :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Once the Bunny Boiler phoned up while I was parked up on an industrial estate one evening, ranting down the phone at me that I was “with another woman”.

I said “Listen, listen, I’ll show you I’m in the truck”, and I held the phone out of the window, started the engine (FH12) and revved it up to the max, then blasted the air horns so she could hear all this evidence that I was in the truck and not indoors somewhere with “the other woman” .

Then I noticed somebody out walking their dog looking at me in amazement…

I saw him in the early 80s when he was still with Supertramp and he was Superb!!!
Scanny77 you have gone right up in my estimation!! TOP MAN for a scotsman

Buck its not only men but im a single woman have been since 92 but do like my own space and independence I have made a life without a man in it because like you say who want a "part time " partner

But it does suite some people tbh as you know up until recently I was driving working shifts so that would have been hard on a relationship as I also worked with a lot of men like most women drivers

It does take a certain type of person to accept this but the older you are the easier it is as Harry Monk says he has a good relationship as they see each other when it suit them

So just take your time & dont look then someone will come into your life ( although im still waiting )

concerts have never really attracted me since i dont like modern music but i would imagine the atmosphere with Rogers style of music would be far more relaxed and happy than the chaos of adolescents jumping about like idiots. now i have learned a bit more about supertramp i am more a fan of Rogers as he did do the writing, lyrics and lead performances of pretty much everything supertramp are known for so it stands to reason i am now a fan of him rather than them

here are the dates if you are interested

Yesterday, whilst sat bored to tears in Felixstowe docks I posted this question on FB, some of the responses I got was actually quite astonishing, so I thought I’d post it as a wider post here.

isn’t it sad when your social life consists of either facebook or your workmates?
