Truckers looking after each other NOT

can anyone explain why fellow truckers do not bother thanking one another when being flashed in after overtaking. Is this now not the thing to do?

No and no .

Elf and safety ,u can not stop on a motorway to get out to thank another driver for flashing his head lights, could you imagin the tailbacks, thats what happend on the M11,so now you cant over take on some parts of it

Why do you flash overtakers in?

I’m a newbie but have quickly learnt not to flash others when others drivers might consider its intended for them. So I do flash in but only when it’s 100 percent certain not to be misconstrued or when I don’t think it’s safe . Same goes for thanking.

Courtesy these days has gone down the toilet in the UK. Getting more and more frequent that you assist someone in some way only for them to blank you. Depressing

It’s a very common thing to do, I’m surprised you’ve never heard of it…

Not flashing in drivers must be a Spanish thing then… I’ve flashed drivers in since I started driving in the Netherlands what, 28 years ago. And I’m sure I wasn’t the first to do so.

Not part of the CPC you see… :unamused:

My understand is to give a flash when you are comfortable for them to come back over.
Whether they wait that long or say thanks, it makes no odds, F all you can do about it…

To be fair originally flashing in was a very British thing, when I first started going to Europe in early 90s (with my Dad) I seem to remember it being fairly rare once one left blighty. But like roundabouts it is becoming common across Europe, though some countries do it less than others, Spain actually being one

Tbh mate I don’t really care of I get a ‘thanks’ on the indicator or not, even though I do do it myself.

Given a choice, I would rather he took notice of the fact that I am comfortable with the space he has left when I flash and not ‘thank’ me, than just cut in seven eighths through the overtake, and show himself to be a complete bell end of the highest order. :smiling_imp:

I have noticed a tendency lately for one or two trucks to ignore a flash, and just to stay in lane 2 for no reason, and even hog it for a while :unamused: …are they newbies, ones who don’t use their mirrors as they should, crap truck drivers? or a combination of the three.

Some of it might be the length of the flash, a quick 'un you as the overtaker might miss.
At one time your peripheral vision would suffice and (unless heading into the sun) you would see the flash out the corner of your eye even looking ahead, but now with some new lorries, noticeably new DAF’s, where the only lights that flash are on the bloody roof (WTF is that all about anyway, roof lights i mean) so you have to be constantly looking left.

Suspect i’ve missed many a flash when it was one of those that lasted 1/1,000,000th of second, so i might be one of those who gets 50 yards ahead before pulling back in, i always indicate left though when returning to lane regardless of flash or not, if i’ve gained some impatient twerp 6 ft from my back end thats his lookout, i’m still not going to cut in front of the poor sod i’ve just gone by.

Like Robroy i’m thoroughly cheesed off with the screen scrapers who get just past your front and they’re on the way in, lots of lorries i never get to flash in because it’s too bloody late when they’re already back in front at less than a cars length and i have to slow up to put some safe distance between us :unamused: , and don’t mention the pillocks who do this then slow up, what’s that all about, picked up the phone i wonder, the one connected to the throttle pedal by a length of string?

OK so the victim wasn’t a ‘trucker’ he was driving a Transit pick up, but i wonder why the 8 wheeler but empty tarmac carrier tipper that pulled out on him at jct 1 M50 on thursday needed to enter the motorway inside lane soon as he rounded the bend, must be 400 yards of acceleration lane there so need for it at all, poor sod in the van had to wipe about 40mph off his speed pronto cos cars alongside him and it was pretty close, tipper attendant is a ■■■■.

Agree with that, you see some tubes giving the tiniest inconceivable winks of lights as you pass, when I see them do it I don’t bother with the indicators as it’s obvious they can’t stand being overtaken, I imagine it annoys them.

On the rare occasion someone passes me I’ll give a couple of good length flashes, impossible to miss.

So someone flashes you in and you don’t bother indicating then

Correct, if they can’t be bothered properly flashing, I can’t be bothered saying thanks.

Why do it at all if you’re not going to do it properly?

To be fair this forum complains about nice curtains, limiters that are higher than 55, high horsepower Scanias, overtaking going up hills, overtaking going down hills, latching diesel pumps on, spotlights on the roof, exhaust pipes, tramping and the list goes on and on.

So yes, I’m one of those that get complained about. And proud of it  :grimacing:

It’s just an old ‘tradition’ that’s slowly dieing out as truck drivers get replaced by steering wheel attendants with no clue or desire to do the job properly. Don’t get wound up about it just accept that’s the way it is now.
