What could cause an artic to suddenly grind to a halt from roughly 30mph? I checked, the trailer brake is off, the air lines are still connected and don’t sound like they’re leaking, and the air freight rollers are down. I’d just left Pallex in Coalville, hit the A511 towards Leicester and bang, the thing ground to a halt in seconds.

Cornering too fast - roll-over protection kicked in and applied the brakes. If not that then your collision radar thing above your bumper is covered in crap and it thought it saw something.

Just gone round a roundabout and no faster than you’d normally take an artic round a roundabout, and was well away from the roundabout when the truck stopped
I don’t think this truck has one, it’s an 11-plate and it doesn’t buzz when you change lanes without indicating.
If the trailer has a sliding suzzie coupling (the suzzie coupling can be pulled out with a handle to give easier access) the coupling incorporates a sensor which is coupled to the ABS electronics. The idea being to stop people driving off with the coupling in the open position. If the coupling works loose or moves slightly (usually because of some damage) the sensor detects that the coupling is not properly closed and the ABS system locks the brakes on, usually when you have come to a stop and you want to move off.
Could be a brake caliper/ shoes problem, ie caliper jammed on/ shoes broken up in the drum ect.
I had one of our old VanHools in tow a while back and although i had the power not to really notice too much the smoke billowing from the trailer bogie had me stopping at the next opportunity. The lining on the shoes on one wheel had disintegrated jamming between the shoe and drum. Worth checking out.
