Truck stops near Cologne

I am planning a family trip to Slovakia next year and are looking for a suitable place to stop overnight near Cologne for families.

Something like a Days Inn or Travel Lodge (German equivelent) would do nicely.

Many thanks

If you can push on a little past Cologne, around a 100 km further on, the services at Bad Camberg on the A3 have a motel attached to them.

here is the link for the place Niel has mentioned

HERE

FOR A PLACE by KÖLN --BONN try ETAP HOTEL–KÖLN-BONN

BUT THE ONE ON THE A3 is a good one as you will be on the road and

away from all the daliy traffic which is very bad in the KÖLN area,

Superb, thanks for the replies chaps. Looks like a good halfway point.

Now, the best way to go?

I thought (actually autoroute suggests)

Chunnel
Brussels
Cologne
Follow A3 to Austria then to Vienna (A1) and over the border to Bratislava (my final destination)

Any problems crossing borders now?
And is most of my route on toll roads?

here is a site for slovakia,-HERE

MOST borders are problem free BUTyou should be prepared to

show your passport if stopped, BAD CAMBERG is about 4-6hrs

for a car from the tunnel,JUST A thought a little further down

is GEISELWIND here is also a good place to stop and from

there is is only 310km to PASSAU–SUBEN BORDER;

It depends on the time of year as regards delays at the border crossings, they can have long queues at the height of the holiday season. Presuming you are going by car you will have nothing to pay for using the roads until you reach Austria. You will need a vignette for Austria but it isn’t expensive and is readily available from the border and from service stations in Germany as you near the border.

Great site, Brit Pete. Already looking forward to the trip.

Re speed limits, don’t seem to want to go fast anymore as going at 56mph feels natural now since starting this driving lark
