Itās just annoying when people canāt win an argument, So they resort to the āwhat if it was your wife and kidsā scenario.
Itās like when the counrty went all politically correct. āHow to get off with this? I know, iāll play the race cardā.
Same tune, different lyrics.
Thereās no proof he was stoned. They found some joints and some weed. It would be more worrying if heād smoked the joints and the weed.
He could have been ill.
Iām just thankful that idiots like yourself only make up the minority of the population.
Had you bothered to read the link, youāll have read that the police had received numerous calls about the manner that the truck was being driven. Once stopped, the driver failed a roadside impairment test. How does that make your theory look now?

Silver_Surfer:
I donāt really drink but Iāll have a smoke before bed time on a night out. I wouldnāt do it before or whilst driving as it does impair you, that & I wouldnāt enjoy it anyway.
Are you admitting smoking weed on a night out? On a forum?!

An idiot like me?
Look at the facts. He failed an impairment test, This would have been conducted by a police officer, Not a Doctor.
He had five UNSMOKED joints in his cab.
Was he ill?
Did he suffer from positional vertigo? Sleep apnea? Diabetes? Bee sting? peanut allergy?
We donāt know.
But iām obviously the idiot because iām not so quick to judge.
A good friend of my dads came out of the pub back in 1982, He hadnāt had a lot to drink, but set off home as he felt ill. The police found him staggering and because they could smell drink on him they thought he was ā ā ā ā ā ā ā He took a serious beating off them. They locked him in a cell and the following morning he was in a really bad way. He wasnāt ā ā ā ā ā ā at all, Heād had a stroke.
Thatās what happens when people jump to conclusions.

can you explain to me why that copper isnāt getting prosecuted for doing 140mph on the A1ā ā ? Any other member of Joe Public would have the book thrown at them but as usual itās one rule for the boys in blue and another for the rest of us.

I very much doubt the above medical conditions would render you unable to pass a roadside impairment test?
Which medical conditions above would cause a driver to (presumably) swerve in and out of his lane for several miles?

Does āJoe Publicā have the same level of advanced driving ability?
He has been severely disciplined btw.

All of them. Positional vertigo is very common amongst lorry drivers.
Diabetes would have similar effects as I seem to remember watching one of those cop reality shows in the USA that they pursued a car for several miles thinking she was ā ā ā ā ā ā and it turned out her blood sugar levels were extremely low causing her to swerve in and out of traffic.
And my bro in law is a diabetic and Iāve witnessed first hand the symptoms of having a low blood sugar count. Not whilst driving though.

Tiredness?

Thatās exactly my point. The fact that he had joints in the cab is purely circumstantial until blood tests are carried out.
CSI trucknet however will have someone hung drawn and quatered.
God help anyone whoās found to blink more times than the national average.

I would have thought that any decent truck driver who falls ill at the wheel would pull over immediately?
Besides, if your diabetes were that severe, you probably wouldnāt be driving a truck?

Well, there are idiots in every line of work. Any decent police officer wouldnāt unnecessarily expose the public to danger.
A police driver has been disciplined after a prisoner he was transporting reported him for driving at 140mph.
The Durham Police officer was travelling from Leeds to Darlington in December in a marked BMW 330.
He began speeding when he was asked by his passenger how fast the car could go, the Northern Echo said.
A force spokesman said the 35-year-oldās police driving licence had been suspended and he had been moved permanently from road policing duties.

Good point, but be aware that I read that there is a lot of people who donāt realise they have diabetes until they get diagnosed,my brother in law certainly didnāt.
Until he collapsed one day, considering that itās very common in people who are overweight and you know as well as me many a truck driver has relaxed muscles so to speak.

Which medical conditions above would cause a driver to (presumably) swerve in and out of his lane for several miles?Tiredness?
Possible but tiredness wouldnāt cause you to fail a roadside impairment test.
The five tests are:
The Pupil Measure Test. Examination of the driverās eye pupil size, condition and reaction to light.
The Romberg Test. This test assesses the subjectās balance and judgement of time. The subject is asked to tilt their head back slightly, close their eyes and estimate the passage of thirty seconds.
The Walk and Turn Test. The subject must walk heel to toe along a straight line, counting their steps out loud and looking at their feet while doing so.
The One Leg Stand Test. The subject must stand on one leg while counting out loud.
The Finger to Nose Test. With the head tilted slightly backwards and eyes closed, the subject must touch the tip of their nose with the tip of their finger with the hand indicated by the officer.
You donāt fail these tests (especially pupil measurement test) due to ātirednessā.
